Introduction: Aggression among youth is a major concern now-a-days as it is known to be linked with violent and criminal activities in later life. There is a high prevalence of aggression reported among adolescents in the country. However, few studies are available based in rural parts of our country. Objective: To find the prevalence and patterns of aggression among adolescents from rural areas. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 300 students of 9th and 10th classes in three schools of Moga district of Punjab. Aggression was assessed using the Buss and Perry aggression questionnaire. Results: The prevalence of overall aggression came out to be 61.7% and nearly all forms of aggression had an equal prevalence, with physical aggression being the most common form. The overall prevalence of aggression was found to be significantly associated with younger age (<15 years), belonging to a nuclear family and the working status of mothers. Conclusion: Aggression among school adolescents is high and needs immediate attention of school and health authorities.
Association of psychosocial factors with aggression among school going rural adolescents in Haryana

Background: Adolescents are being involved in aggressive activities nowadays. Sometimes, involvement in aggressive activities may be fatal for the victim as well as for the doer. It is a matter of great concern for all including parents, teachers, psychologists, social reformers, and others. A momentary expression of anger sometimes may spoil the future life of the adolescents. Aim and Objectives: To determine the prevalence of aggression and to identify the psychosocial risk factors associated with aggression among school-going adolescents. Methodology: The study recruited 480 school-going rural adolescents from eight government senior secondary schools in the rural block of Beri, district Jhajjar (Haryana). Observations: The mean age of the adolescents was 14.11 ± 1.12 years; 49.4% of the adolescents were found to be aggressive. After applying binary logistic regression, there was a statistically significant relation between aggression and determinants like class, gender, occupation of the father. Conclusion and Recommendations: The study concluded that determinants like age, class of students, gender of the subject, occupation of father found a significant association with aggression. To solve this current situation, parents must give love, attention to their children and must act in an appropriate way in front of them and be role models.

Background: Aggression affects academic learning and emotional development, can damage school climate and if not controlled early and may precipitate extreme violence in the future. Objectives: (1) To determine the magnitude and types of aggressive behavior in school children. (2) To identify the influence of age and sex on aggressive behavior. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Anandanagar High School, Singur village, West Bengal. Participants were 161 boys and 177 girls of classes VII to IX. The students were asked to complete a self-administered questionnaire indicating the types of aggressive behavior by them in the previous month and to assess themselves with reference to statements indicating verbal/physical aggression. Results: Overall, 66.5% of the children were physically aggressive in the previous month: Boys 75.8%, girls 58.2% (P = 0.001); 56.8% were verbally aggressive: Boys 55.2%, girls 61% (P = 0.97). Verbal indirect passive aggression was more common among girls (55.3%) than among boys (22.3%) (P = 0.000 [1.17E −09 ]). Boys were more liable to physical aggression, viz. 60.2% of the boys would hit on provocation compared with only 9% of the girls (P = 0.000 [6.6E-23 ]). Regarding attributes indicating verbal aggression, girls were more argumentative (63.8%) than boys (55.2%) (P = 0.134) and disagreeing (41.8%) compared with boys (33.5%) (P = 0.145). With increasing age/class, physical direct active aggression decreased while physical indirect passive and verbal indirect passive aggression increased. No classes had been taken on anger control/management by school the authorities. Conclusions: Aggressive behavior was common both among boys and girls. Life skills education/counseling/classroom management strategies are recommended.
BELIEFS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ON AGGRESSION- A STUDY
The present study was aimed at predicting the effect of beliefs on aggression and non-violent strategies of secondary school students on peace atmosphere in the school. The sample comprised of 100 secondary school students from corporate schools of Machilipatnam. The tool used is Beliefs Assessment scale. It consists of 12 statements. Two subscales are included in this assessment: Beliefs about Aggression (items 3, 4, 6, 10, 11 and 12) and Use of Nonviolent Strategies (items 1, 2, 5, 7, 8 and 9). The objectives of the study, is there any significant difference between secondary school students and beliefs on aggression and their gender, Class they are studying and social status. With regard to the overall scale, gender and social status do not make any significant difference on the beliefs of secondary school students on aggression and strategies on non-violence. With reference to the class studying, only 8th class students differed significantly with 10th class students. Ninth class students did not differ significantly with their counterparts of 8th and 10th class students. None of the variables makes a significant difference on the beliefs of secondary school students on strategies on non-violence. In respect of beliefs on aggression, gender did not make significant difference. 8th class students differed significantly with 10th class students. Only O.C. social status group students differed significantly with S.C. students.

The most difficult and challenging area in the sphere of aggression among individuals is that of aggression among adolescents. The research was designed as an initial attempt to assess aggression of adolescent and its relation to sex[i], self concept and socioeconomic status. A sample of Adolescents ranged between 15-17 years was taken randomly from Jammu district of J&K state. . All subjects completed Aggression inventory. Socio economic scale was used to assess the socioeconomic status of the subjects. Self concept scale was used to assess the self concept of adolescents. Three way ANOVA was employed to assess the correlation between aggression, self concept and socioeconomic status. Background: Aggression refers to behaviour which causes intentional harm to others. There are about 1.2 billion adolescents in the world today, making 16% of the world’s population. Background: Increasing aggression and violent behaviors in adolescents present serious challenges for public health. Children with persistent high levels of aggressiveness are often associated with developing conduct disorders later in life. Objectives: (1) To identify aggression among school adolescents. (2). To find out the association of aggression with different socio-demographic characteristics among these students. Methods: It was a school based cross sectional study conducted in one of the private schools in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Study population comprised of 319 adolescents studying in classes 9 th-12 th. A pre-tested, semi-structured, self-administered questionnaire was distributed to the study subjects. For assessing aggression, a modified version of Direct and Indirect Aggression Scale (DIAS) was used. Data was analyzed by using frequency tables and significant association was established by chi-square test. Result: A large proportion of adolescents scored high on each item of aggression scale. Males adolescents displayed significantly higher levels of aggressiveness as compared to female. Younger age showed higher level of aggressive scores than older age groups. Adolescents who were Hindus and had nuclear families with educated parents were found to have high aggressive scores as compared to other religion and joint families. However, these differences were not statistically significant. Conclusions: There is high aggression level among school adolescents which needs effective preventive and management strategy.
AGGRESSION AMONG ADOLESCENTS: A STUDY
The present study intends to find out the attitude of senior secondary school students towards aggression. The study explores the effect of various demographic variables (gender, religion, place of living, educational qualification of father and educational qualification mother, occupation of father and occupation of mother, and economic status) on aggression among senior secondary school students. The study has been conducted on the sample of 311 senior secondary students of India (U.P Aligarh). The questionnaire prepared and standardized by the investigators has been used for the purpose. The data has been analyzed at two levels: first, measures of central tendency have been calculated and second inferential statistics have been applied to find out the significance of the difference. The results indicate that various demographic variables like gender, place of living, economic status have a significant effect on the attitude of the learners towards aggression. However, some demographic variables like religion, educational qualification of father and educational qualification mother, occupation of father and occupation of mother, do not make any difference in the attitude of learners towards aggression.

Aggression is a very commonly seen behaviour these days among school children. It is also one of the most prevalent behavioural aspects in children which cause a lot of concern in the present days. Aggression engulfs a wide spectrum of behaviours, which varies from covert to overt display of aggressive behaviours. The current study identified certain private schools in Bangalore city through purposive sampling method.
