Proceedings of THE 1 st INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE INTERETHNIC RELATIONS IN TRANSYLVANIA Militaria Mediaevalia in Central and South Eastern Europe Sibiu, October 14 th - 17 th , 2010 (original) (raw)
The importance of interethnic relations topic in different periods of the Central European area history is not a recent interest in historiography, but maybe in the last 15 years, this topic has become extremely debated in the context of regional conflicts that took on ethnic form. Because of these conflict s the interest in terms of ethnic composition in the Balkan territories increased significantly, which is visible in publications that are out of print in recent years. However meetings between specialists, which is specifically dedicated to analysis of particular issues arising from intense commercial and cultural exchanges in Central and Southeast Europe have been and are still very few. Medieval weapons is an important topic of study, spectacular because of its diversity and symbolism, being one of the most important markers of the Middle Ages, things that fully justifies the organization of an international symposium. Based on these considerations, the present volume aims to provide a possible way to integrate the results of archeology, history and art history in the wider medieval historiography of Central and South-East European dedicated to military issues. This volume bring together almost all papers presented at International Symposium Militaria Mediaevalia in Central and South Eastern Europe, October 14-17, Sibiu, which is the 3rd symposium organized under the topic Ethnic Relations by the Department of Ancient and Medieval History with funding from the Department for Interethnic Relations of the General Secretariat of the Romanian Government.

Studia academica Šumenensia 8, 2021. The Northern Balkans between East and West in 6th-15th century.
Located on the border of the empire, Dobruja is among the regions affected by the abandonment and disintegration of the Danube limes (between 576 and 626 at most), the balance of the previous period being replaced by frequent and various changes dictated by the relations between newcomers and natives, and some still present Byzantines. The period of amalgamation of the existing population with migrant peoples began at the end of antiquity and ended with the great Mongol invasion. This paper gives a brief presentation of the political situation on the Lower Danube between the 7th-13th centuries, revealing the intense military interference on the population left after the withdrawal of the Byzantine administration and migrant peoples who made invasions and even settled south of the river. The military interferences were interspersed throughout this period with the peaceful ones, an important role in this sense being played by trade. It was the citadels and towns that provided the enabling framework for peaceful interference (cultural, technical and religious) to take place beyond military interference. And each of them has left its mark on the ethnic background in the Istro-Pontic territory.
