Mental Health: An Empirical Research among Adolescents

This research purely spotlight on the notion of mental health and psychological wellbeing among the school going adolescents. The concept of being healthy is not only the proper functioning of the body rather it means the body and mind working together efficiently and smoothly. Mental health is a factor that contributes to the maintenance of physical health as well as social effectiveness with integrated personality. The aim of the present study is to explore the mental health among school going adolescents. Data of 483 adolescents ranging in the age of 14 to 18 years (216 males & 267 females) was collected from the Government model senior secondary schools, Chandigarh. Subjects filled the mental health inventory developed by Jagdish and Srivastava (1983). All the dimensions of mental health (positive self evaluation, perception of reality, integration of personality, autonomy, group oriented attitude, environmental mastery) were taken into consideration and descriptive statistics was calculated gender wise with the help of SPSS version 25. Results revealed that adolescents were low on positive self evaluation, perception of reality, group oriented attitude, environmental mastery, integration of personality and overall mental health. Both the genders showed similar mental health and minor differences were revealed.

Mental health among adolescents

The aim of present study was to know the difference between male and female adolescents on Mental Health among adolescents. The random sampling method was used in this study. The total sample consisted of 200 subjects out of which 100 were male adolescents and 100 were girls adolescents were from Kendriya Vidayalaya, Kankarbagh, Patna. Mithila Mental Health Status Inventory by Kumar and Thakur (1984) was used to measure Mental Health. The data were analysed using to 't' test. The result showed that there is significant difference between male and female adolescents on Mental Health.

A Study of Mental Health Status of College Going Youths of Kashmir

This study was conducted to evaluate the mental health status among youths. Descriptive survey Method was used in this study to obtain pertinent and precise information. The hypotheses of the study were to know the relationship between mental health status and emotional stability, overall-adjustment, autonomy, self concept, security-insecurity and intelligence of youths, to find out the difference in mental health status of youth boys and girls, to find out the difference in emotional stability, overall-adjustment, autonomy, self concept, security-insecurity and intelligence. The sample of this study included 300 youths selected by stratified random sampling from the district Baramulla Kashmir. The one standardized tool was used by the investigator to evaluate the mental health status of youths in relation to their emotional stability, overall-adjustment, autonomy, self concept, security-insecurity and intelligence. In order to draw out the results the investigator used statistical techniques like t‘tests, mean and standard deviation with graphical representations. The conclusions of the study are that there exists no significant difference between Mental health status and emotional stability, Mental health status and overall-adjustment, Mental health status and autonomy, Mental health status and self concept, Mental health status and security-insecurity, Mental health status and intelligence of youth boys and girls.

Mental health among adolescent students in relation to gender and locale

Good health enables peoples to enjoy life and to have the opportunity to achieve the goals they have set for themselves. Mental health is a fundamental aspect that influences both physical health and social effectiveness. Today, there are various problems around human societies. So, it is a challenge for humans to be mentally healthy. The purpose of the present study was to study the mental health of adolescent students across gender and locale. The study was conducted on a sample of 580 Govt. secondary school students in Budgam district (J&K) through randomization. Survey method was used for data collection. The data for the present research was personally collected while using the Mental Health Battery by Singh & Gupta (2005). The results revealed from the study showed that there is significant difference between male and female adolescent students in relation to their mental health. Thus, female adolescent students have better mental health than male adolescents. The results also showed that no significant difference was found between rural and urban adolescent students in relation to their mental health, both are equal.

Mental Health Status among Adolescents of High Schools: A Cross-sectional Study

Background: Adolescents are prone to develop various psychosocial problems with a long-standing impact. We aimed to investigate the mental health status among adolescents from high schools in Dharan sub-metropolitan city. Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, we enrolled 150 adolescents from two different schools of Dharan, using a stratified random sampling technique. The Pediatric Symptoms Checklist for Youth was used to assess their mental health status. A score of 30 or more was considered as a mental health problem. Poverty, family dispute, punishment, and personal and family history of a psychiatric condition were considered as potential predictors of mental health problem. The chi-square test was applied to identify the predictors of mental health problem. Results: The final analysis included 141 samples. Influencing factors of Mental Health of Adolescents at School Level

Mental health(MH) is a state of emotional and psychological well-being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society, and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life. Their behaviour has impact on National Health Indicators like maternal and infant mortality.Adolescents are vulnerable to STIs, HIV/AIDS and Sexual-Abuse when there is negative impact of parents, teachers and their peer group especially upon their mental health. Several studies have emphasised serious concerns relating to adolescents that need urgent attention towards their mental health at school level itself. Caring, supportive environment will promote optimum development of Physical, Emotional and Mental health among Adolescents. Hence, the factors 'Parent Child Relation (PCR)' 'School Environment (SE)' and 'Peer Relation (PR)' are considered and their influence on mental health of adolescents is studied in this paper. Results disclose that there is high significant influence of good peer relation and healthy school environment on mental health of adolescents whereas 'Parent Child relation' has influenced moderately. It has been observed that the contribution of 'Parent Child Relation', 'Peer Relation' and 'School Environment' towards 'Mental Health' is more in girls than boys. Adolescents of Private Schools have strong parent child relation when compared to the adolescents of Government schools. But age and class of the adolescents have not shown any influence on their Mental Health due to PCR, SE and PR as there is no much gap among them.

Assessment of mental health status among school going adolescents in North East India: A cross sectional school based survey

Adolescent emotional responses and behaviors are often passed off as growth pangs and academic stress, thereby missing those that need deeper understanding and mental health interventions. The aim of the study is to understand mental health status among the school adolescents in Tezpur, Assam. The present study was a cross sectional study that used convenience sampling in selection of the schools. A total of 10 schools were selected for the purpose of the study. 1403 Adolescents were selected for data analysis. Socio-Demographic Performa and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire [SDQ] were administered to the participants. Factors affecting adolescent mental health

This study was conducted to evaluate mental health status of secondary school students. The study sample consisted of 176 senior high school students attending a secondary school. Socio-demographic information form and the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) have been used to collect data. Chi square test has been used for evaluating the relationship between socio demographic characteristics and GHQ-12. The average age of the adolescents participating in the study is 16.34 ± 1.34, 45.9 % is female, 52.1 % is not working mother, 48.7 % is working father, 47.9 % is mother and 38.0 % is high school and higher. It was determined that 39.8 % of the students lived in the core family. As a result of the General Health Questionnaire of the adolescents, it was seen that 41.47 % of the adolescents scored below 2,58.52 % scored 2 or more, and the group was risky for mental health.
