Asian Journal of Computer Science Engineering(AJCSE), 2020

Smart grid, smart homes, intelligent water networks, and smart transport are the most infrastructural structures possible today to link our planet. The general vision of such systems is usually linked to a sole notion called the internet of things (IoT). In IoT, the whole solid infrastructure is diligently linked to information and communication technology through the use of networked embedded devices, where smart surveillance and control can be done. In such a sophisticated dynamic system, all instruments are interconnected to provide useful measurement and control instructions through the distributed sensor networks. The way we interact with the world around us is fast changing in technology. We are moving to new networking paradigms, the internet of objects (loT), which maintains data generation and internet communication for greater value and service through the worldwide number of interconnected sensors or intelligent objects. The IoT should facilitate the interconnection and sharing of information and useful data through thousands of devices, people, and services. To revolutionize the way the internet works, the IoT seeks to put together the ideas of machine-to-machine connectivity, big data, artificial intelligence, etc., to operate within a shared framework to interconnect cyberspace and human beings, which contributes to the advancement of cyber-physical systems. The idea of IoT has drawn considerable attention to research as the huge connectivity presents several challenges and hurdles, such as heterogeneity, scalability, safety, large data, and power demand. To achieve a stable IoT implementation, several security concepts on each layer should be enforced. The future of IoT can only be secured by discussing and resolving the security problems associated with it. Several researchers have tried by introducing effective countermeasures to resolve the security issues for IoT layers and tools. To date, there are limited surveys that highlight the challenges and issues of the IoT that has been identified as unique to the future internet and that various research communities must address and address. This paper gives an overview of security principles, technology and security challenges, proposed countermeasures , and future directions for IoT security. The Internet of Things, Its Risks, and Ways to Address It

International Journal For Multidisciplinary Research, 2023

The internet is a vast, interconnected network of computers and other network-enabled devices, which is: Globally available ,Easy to use, Compatible with other types of media, Affordable and Flexible .The term IoT, or Internet of Things, refers to the collective network of connected devices and the technology that facilitates communication between devices and the cloud, as well as between the devices themselves. Thanks to the advent of inexpensive computer chips and high bandwidth telecommunication, we now have billions of devices connected to the internet. since 2008, machines outnumbered people as "users" of the Internet, so the Internet of Things (IoT) is an interlocking network of hardware, software, sensors and other "things" as the Internet of Things (IoT) can be compared to a social network or email provider, but the Internet of Things connects devices instead of people. These devices connect wirelessly, take action and generate data In several fields such as industry, agriculture and health, it may reach unprecedented levels, which allows new technological competencies and capabilities, but what if something goes wrong or external interference in its work?, enabling new technological efficiencies and capabilities. IoT attacks present unique challenges compared to traditional IT attacksthere are real warnings about the dangers of the Internet of Things (IoT). These warnings are a way to understand the nature of the risks and how to make technology that is safer. IoT security is important because it keeps data secure, which requires specialized security measures to provide protection against these risks, which are exploiting vulnerabilities in Internet-connected devices.

In this chapter, the authors collected data from issues related to threats in the applications of IoT-based technologies that describe the security and privacy issues from 30 peer reviewed publications from 2014 to 2017. Further, they analyzed each threat type and its percentages in each application of the internet of things. The results indicated that the applications of smart transportation (20%) face the highest amount of security and privacy issues followed by smart home (19%) and smart cities (18%) compared to the rest of the applications. Further, they determined that the biggest threats were denial of service attack (9%) followed by eavesdropping (5%), man in the middle (4%), and replay (4%). Denial of service attacks and man in the middle attack are active attacks that can severely damage human life whereas eavesdropping is a passive attack that steals information. This study has found that privacy issues have the biggest impacts on people. Therefore, researchers need to find possible solutions to these threats to improve the quality of IoT applications.

Security Issues and Challenges in Internet of Things

Advances in Wireless Technologies and Telecommunication, 2017

The Internet of Things (IoT) aims at connecting a large number of communication and information systems. With the further development of pervasive computing, these systems can be integrated into everyday objects, such as household devices and tools. When complex systems are interconnected, it is complicated to keep track of how secure a system or connection is and to distinguish which devices are connected within the IoT and which devices are not. As to the security, the IoT will be faced with more severe challenges. There are the following reasons: 1) the IoT extends the ‘internet' through the traditional internet, mobile network and sensor network and so on, 2) every ‘thing' will be connected to this ‘internet' and 3) these ‘things' will communicate with each other. Therefore, the new security and privacy problems will arise out of which authentication and access control are the most vital security issues that need to be taken care of. Therefore, we should pay more...
