Nurse Manager Competency Model in a Teaching Hospital

Introduction: Nurse managers in carrying out their duties must have a variety of competencies, one of which is managerial competencies. A model of competency for nurse managers will assist them in shaping their roles as managers in a teaching hospital. This study aims to develop the managerial competency model for nurse managers at the teaching hospital.Methods: The research design used in this study was action research. This research was conducted with 20 nurse managers who work at inpatient wards of the teaching hospital. Participants were selected by purposive sampling approach and have accepted to participate in the research. The data were obtained by using interview through focus groups discussions. The content analysis method was employed for analyzing the data. Objective: This investigation aimed to identify and analyze the general and specific competencies of nurses in the primary health care practice of Brazil. Design: The Delphi Technique was used as the method of study. Sample: 2 groups of participants were selected: One contained primary health care nurses (n 5 52) and the other specialists (n 5 57), including public health nurses and public or community health faculty. Measurements: 3 questionnaires were developed for the study. The first asked participants to indicate general and specific competencies, which were compiled into a list for each group. A Likert scale of 1-5 was added to these 2 lists in the second and third questionnaires. A consensus criterion of 75% for score 4 or 5 was adopted. Results: In the nurses' group, 17 general and 8 specific competencies reached the consensus criterion; 19 general and 9 specific competencies reached the criterion in the specialists' group. These competencies were classified into 10 domains: professional values, communication, teamwork, management, community-oriented, health promotion, problem solving, health care, and education and basic public health sciences. Conclusions: These competencies reflect Brazilian health policy and constitute a reference for health professional practice and education.
Nurse Manager Core Competencies: A Proposal in the Spanish Health System

Nurses who are capable of developing their competencies appropriately in the field of management are considered fundamental to the sustainability and improvement of health outcomes. These core competencies are the critical competencies to be developed in specific areas. There are different core competencies for nurse managers, but none in the Spanish health system. The objective of this research is to identify the core competencies needed for nurse managers in the Spanish health system. The research was carried out using the Delphi method to reach a consensus on the core competencies and a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to determine construct validity, reducing the dimensionality of a dataset by finding the causes of variability in the set and organizing them by importance. Development of nursing management competencies: guidelines for continuous education services

OBJECTIVE Developing continuing education guidelines for the development of nursing management competencies along with the members of the Center of Nursing Continuing Education of Parana. METHOD A qualitative research outlined by the action research method, with a sample consisting of 16 nurses. Data collection was carried out in three stages and data were analyzed according to the thematic analysis technique. RESULTS It was possible to discuss the demands and difficulties in developing nursing management competencies in hospital organizations and to collectively design a guideline. CONCLUSION The action research contributed to the production of knowledge, confirming the need and the importance of changing the educational processes and evaluations, based on methodologies and instruments for professional development in accordance with human resource policies and contemporary organizational policies.

Aim: To identify the Competency Profile of nurses coordinating undergraduate courses in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and determine the Pearson correlation between the existing competencies on the instrument applied to these professionals. Methods: Methodological and exploratory research of quantitative character performed in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The sample was composed of 44 nurses coordinating undergraduate courses in nursing who answered the competency profiles. Results: Most of the answers to the questionnaire were classified as important and very important according to the application of the Likert scale. The application of the questionnaire indicated that in educational and administrative domains, self-evaluation had a higher number of scores considered satisfactory. Analysis of the perception of nursing technicians in the exercise of leadership by nurses in a public hospital in the northeastern region of the state of Minas Gerais (Atena Editora), 2023
Nursing is a profession that is consistent with caring and managing, manifested through assistance with the medical team for the treatment of pathologies, whether in the hospital sector, community or home; it is also manifested by direct contact with the patient when administering medications and complex conduct required by the medical team, including management and leadership conduct. According to Kron (1998) leadership is fundamental for the development of the nurse's work, so one must consider a leader the one who motivates the other as little as possible to develop habits or duties with excellence. It aims to analyze the leadership profile of nurses in a public hospital in the interior of Minas Gerais (MG), through the perception of nursing technicians. It is a descriptive research, having as public; forty nursing technicians to assess the leadership profile of nurses, in which they were submitted to answer a research questionnaire containing variables regarding the leadership profile of nurses in view of the perception of nursing technicians; questionnaire applied from April 8 to 20, 2019. Therefore, the nurses of this hospital in the interior of MG were considered good leaders, with a positive influence. It is known that it is important for the work environment and assisted clients, as a good leader turns a group into a team, always ensuring the harmony and competence of all.
Reflection on nursing management: are we all competent?

Objective: to reflect on competencies of the nurse in managing health services. Methods: Theoretical reflection. As source of attainment of the data one used articles argued in disciplines "Theoretical Conceptions in Management and Work" of the Program of masters degree in nursing/UFSM and other articles selected in the databases Lilacs and Medline, combined the experiences manager of a specialized unit. Results: it is observed that most of the nurses is not prepared to accept other organization forms, different from the classic structure, adopted for many years in the nursing. Some characteristics of that management style, as the fragmentation of the activities, the impessoalidade in the relation, the centralization of the power and the rigid hierarchy are still outstanding in the nurse work. Conclusion: it is highlighted that the development of competencies depends on the situations lived and the exchanges that are made in the search for a common ideal, which is the assistance to the individual. Métodos: reflexão teórica. Como fonte de obtenção dos dados tilizaram-se artigos discutidos na disciplina "Concepções Teóricas em Gestão e Trabalho", do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem/UFSM, e outros artigos selecionados nas bases de dados Lilacs (Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde) e Medline (Literatura Internacional em Ciências da Saúde), aliados às vivências como gerente de uma unidade especializada. Resultados: observa-se que a maior parte dos enfermeiros não está preparada para aceitar outras formas de organização diferentes da estruturação clássica, adotada por muitos anos na enfermagem. Algumas características desse estilo de gerência, como a fragmentação das atividades, a impessoalidade nas relações, a centralização do poder e a rígida hierarquia ainda são marcantes no trabalho do enfermeiro. Conclusão: destaca-se que o desenvolvimento das competências depende das situações vividas e das trocas que realizamos com os nossos pares, na busca por um ideal comum, que é a assistência ao indivíduo de quem cuidamos. This exploratory-descriptive study was performed using a qualitative approach with the purpose to identify and analyze the attributes mobilized in work situations that characterize the performance of nurses in managerial competence in Family Health based on the concepts of dialogic competence. Data collection was performed through participant observation of the work performed by Family Health nurses in four units associated with the University of São Paulo in Ribeirão Preto - SP/Brazil, considering a typical workweek, with a total of 160 hours of observation. Through content analysis, using the thematic analysis technique, we identified five themes related to: supervision, teamwork, social control, work organization and planning. Results show there is a group of attributes mobilized by nurses which remains centered on work organization for individual health care with rare incursions for a systemized planning process.
