University Community Engagement towards Development of Local Communities in Sokoto, Nigeria (original) (raw)

Abstract The university institution is tasked by society and its ideologies of existence to educate, empower and socialize citizens for the required high skills, knowledge and other pre-requisite factors for human development. Therefore, expected contributions of university to the larger society and the local community it is situated was put across. The paper contents integrates expected roles and contributions of an ideal university institution in any part of the world to societies and immediate local community it is situated, this is in related to Nigeria universities and their inherent challenges. Thus, this position was summarily narrowed to Usmanu Danfodiyo University in its success for engaging in community services and networking, which complement its primary functions of teaching and research. It is for the progressive socioeconomic, political, education and research services to communities of Nigeria that the paper sees basic capital funding by government and support from other institutions and private sectors as the tools to sustain university education activities and services to the nation at large.
