DEMAND CHAIN MANAGEMENT: The Main Techniques Used by Production Engineering in the Demand Management Process (original) (raw)

Demand chain management: an integrative approach in automotive retailing

Journal of Operations Management, 2002

Recent reviews of the Operations Management research literature have shown a surprising little shift towards empirical methodologies from traditional modeling solution methods. In addition, there is generally a lack of empirical testing and validation of manufacturing strategies. Coupled to this fact is that empirical work is rarely carried out in an inter-disciplinary manner, with the complete combination of OM, marketing, strategy, lean thinking and accounting approaches particularly poorly researched. Fully cross-functional integrative

Demand Chain Management: An Effort to Improve Competitiveness and Business Performance

2017

This study aims to analyzethedemand chain management relate tocompetitiveness and business performance ofsmall business in Probolinggo, East Java, Indonesia. The research population are 96 small refined fish processing small business.Sensus technique was adopted to determine reasearh sample. This is because the number of small business are only 96 units. Thats why, researcher adopt the sampling technique. So, the sample size is 96 small business. The study used primary data which was collected by quesioner. Previously, the quesioner was of course tested its reablity and validity. Further, it was distributed to the respondents directly. A week after, reseacher collected the quesioners, then edited and tabulated. Primary data was analyzed by structural quation model (SEM). The result demonstrated that there are linkage among demand chain management, competitiveness and busines performance. It means, demand chain management becomes an effort to improve competitiveness as well as busines...

Supply Demand Chain Management

Emergent structures in Supply/Demand Chain Management (SDCM) are the interaction of logistics activities leading to material flow, thereby satisfying the consumer's demand. The logistics area is rapidly developing to create individualized value for the consumer as well as a sustainable growth for the actors involved in the Supply/Demand Chain. Ericsson in Waters (1) maintains that creating customer value has been discussed ever since the 1940s, but distribution channels are often organized by supply activities that have resulted in supply push rather then demand pull. Development in this area has improved with the implantation of new technologies that have provided the actors with real-time information that has resulted in enhanced competitiveness. The use of the information and communication technology (ICT) has increased the awareness of the need to satisfy the consumers' specific requirements. This development can be also seen in the packaging area. Packaging is assumed to have a major influence on logistics in general and on physical distribution in particular. The packaging plays an active role in protecting and creating value from when it is filled at the packer/filler* until the product is emptied by the end-user. This in logistics terms means that the actors involved in packaging must play an important and proactive part in maintaining efficiency in logistics.

Demand Chain management Model: A tool for stakeholders value creation

International Journal of Business and Social Research, 2013

The recent pressure on organisations to maximise shareholders value through demand chain management has brought about many arguments as there are different consensuses on what supply chain management and demand chain management are. This study aims to augment the existing knowledge of demand chain management concept and how it can be used to maximise stakeholders' value. The study examines demand chain management through comprehensive literature review on the various definitions of demand chain management, the difference between demand chain management and how they can be integrated to achieve stakeholders' value. It also reviews literature on evidence of demand chain management in practice. Based on the literature review a model of demand chain management is developed. The study suggests finding the balance between supply chain and demand chain in order to maximise customer value hence shareholders value.

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT: A REVIEW

Supply chains can be basically defined, as a group of interconnected companies that adds some sort of value, to a stream of transforming inputs from the source to the end product that are demanded by the end customers. The increasing globalization, which has led to increase in the demand of the products, has forced the companies for outsourcing and which, in turn has led to supply chain management. To deliver quality along with effective prices, supply chain management has become the need of the hour. The world is changing constantly and rapidly, and so are the demands of the consumer. In order to meet this, demand supply chain plays a crucial role. This paper aims at discussing various factors that play an important role, in supply chain management.

Reducing the impact of demand process

2008

Forrester analyzed Supply Chain and the different levels existing in it, as well as the participant companies and the role played by each of them inside the chain as a global group, and observed that small variations in end item demand caused oscillations that are amplified throughout the chain. This phenomenon, called the Bullwhip effect, has detrimental consequences on inventory levels and on all kind of inventory costs that may affect the added value of the activities throughout the logistics chain and ultimately affect the Net Present Value of all the activities in the chain. There is a set of collaborative supply chain structures which reduce these harmful consequences within the supply chain. The study presented in this paper quantifies how collaborative supply chain structures reduce the Bullwhip effect in terms of demand variability and inventory cost.

DEMAND CHAIN MANAGEMENT – Integrating Marketing and SCM

This paper endorses demand chain management as a new business model aimed at creating value in today's marketplace, and combining the strengths of marketing and supply chain competencies. Demand chain design is based on a thorough market understanding and has to be managed in such a way as to effectively meet differing customer needs.

Analysis and design of focused demand chains

Journal of Operations Management, 2002

The paper describes the evolution of focused demand chains over an extended period of time as a major UK lighting manufacturer has sought to remain an international player in a fast changing business environment. Analysis and design procedures make use of the concepts of Wickham Skinner and Marshall Fisher to answer the strategic questions "what facilities are required and how should they be laid out to enable the necessary focused demand chains?" and to answer the tactical question "which focused demand chain is appropriate for this product?" The case study then details how the company has been transformed from operating within a traditional supply chain to driving change via the engineering of four focused demand chains. The paper concludes with a comparison of operations enablers, customer choice, and business performance metrics covering the transition period culminating in the current focused demand chain scenario. By matching products to the appropriate value stream there is a consequential reduction in product development time of 75%; manufacturing costs reduction of up to 27%; and up to 95% reduction in delivery lead times.

Demand Chain Management Performance Assessment and Strategy Development of Virgin Coconut Oil Industry Case Study: Bumdes Bumi Lestari

Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management, 2021

Virgin Coconut Oil BUMDes Bumi Lestari has supply chain and demand chain activities. There was an imbalance in oil production which reached 1,000 liters per month with a relatively low sales volume. The aim of this research is to apply demand chain management performance assessment on a Virgin Coconut Oil BUMDes Bumi Lestari, Desa Selemadeg, Kec. Selemadeg, Kab. Tabanan. The method used in this research is performance appraisal with the demand chain operation reference model approach, AHP weighting, OMAX, traffic light system, and SWOT analysis. The results showed that the demand chain management performance in the BUMDes Bumi Lestari Virgin Coconut Oil business was 6,388 which was in the range of 3.01 ≤ 6,388 ≤ 8.00 (quite good). The results of the SWOT analysis recommend improvements in performance such as maintaining cooperation with suppliers, maintaining cooperation with farmer groups, maintaining the quality of Virgin Coconut Oil, improving customer service, adding workers to...

Supply Chain and Value Chain Engineering – Review

International Journal of Advanced Science and Engineering, 2020

Supply chain is a widely discussed topic in the last decades. The Just-in-Time concept in manufacturing was a massive success towards the end of the millennium. The Just-In-Time delivery has become a crucial indicator of a company’s competitive advantage. Whilst Supply Chain is an integral part of logistics, this paper systematically reviews the fundamentals of supply chain including the definition and difference between a value chain and a supply chain in an academic context, including some key supply chain management principles.
