The influence of fractal geometry on anomalous skin-effect in metal systems
ITM Web of Conferences, 2019
The paper defines basic criteria of surface fractal geometry for 50Ω Au/i-GaAs{100} coplanar microwave transmission lines, which influence on active resistance of their skin-layer and inductivity L. The local approximation limit L for active resistance L(R) is ≈800 um and for inductivity L(L) is ≈400 um.

The dispersive characteristics of multilayer microstrip structures with one thin metallic substrate are studied using the spectral-domain approach. The numerical results of several approximate models are compared with that of the immittance approach as one exact model. The comparison shows that the widely used resistive sheet (Rcard) model is not appropriate to handle such structures over a broad frequency range.

Recent improvements in materials and processing technologies have dramatically increased the frequency range where ceramic thick ®lm circuits can be utilized. Coupled with inherent advantages of thick ®lm technology viz. low manufacturing cost, multilayering capability and relative insensitivity to substrate surface characteristics, such improvements have resulted in circuits that are penetrating the domain which was previously reserved to thin ®lm technology. In view of newer developments in modern electronics, there is still ample scope for the development of new materials and processes especially in thick ®lm technology. In thick ®lms, conductors play a major role and silver±palladium is one of the important conductor materials in microelectronic circuits. Efforts are made in this work towards the development of suitable silver±palladium thick ®lm conductors from the standpoint of microwave applications. The properties such as surface microstructure, sheet resistance, adhesion and microwave performance of the indigenously developed silver±palladium paste compositions is reported here. Highly porous surface structure, low adhesion and low characteristic impedance of thick ®lm microstrip are observed for pastes with high palladium concentration.
A Study on Effect of Line Width, Composition and Firing Temperature on the Microstripline Properties
Active and Passive Electronic Components, 2000
The transmittance and reflectance of microstriplines of different widths, fabricated by thick film and thin film technology are studied in the X and Ku band (8-18 GHz). The fritless thick film Ag pastes with different binder composition was formulated indigenously and screen-printed the microstriplines on alumina substrate. These microstriplines were compared with the microstriplines made from ESL (USA) pastes and also Cu thin film circuits. The effect of line width, composition and firing temperature on the thick film microstriplines was investigated. The transmittance of all the indigenously prepared Ag thick film paste compared well with microstriplines prepared with ESL pastes. All these thick film pastes gave good transmittance upto 18.0 GHz. The results indicate firing at 700C gives best films, and also 18 mil or 20-mil line width is more suitable than conventional 25-mil line width if thick films are used for metallization upto 18.0GHz.
Effects from the Thin Metallic Substrate Sandwiched in Planar Multilayer Microstrip Lines
PIERS Online, 2006
This paper studies the dispersion characteristics of open multilayer microstrip lines with a thin highly-conductive metallic substrate using the spectral domain approach. From the numerical results, it is found that, in both lossy (metal-insulator-silicon structure such as Si-SiO 2) and lossless configurations (thin metal between lossless dielectric microstrip line), at the low frequency range, this thin metallic substrate can excite slow waves. And accordingly the frequency dependent transmission-line characteristics of interconnects, such as propagation constant, attenuation and the characteristic impedance, can change remarkably with the existence of the thin metallic substrate.

mm is inset 19.25 mm from the center of a patch edge. The coaxial aperture has radius 1.75 mm. The resonant frequency, resistance, and reactance were measured as 1.55 GHz, 128.1 ⍀, and 48.6 ⍀, respectively. A circular capacitor patch is added. The probe is now penetrating the radiating patch and is connected to the center of the capacitor patch. The radius of the hole in the radiating patch is 2 mm. The impedance was calculated for a range of structures. Four different antenna elements were fabricated and measured. For the fabricated structures the distance between the patch and the capacitor patch is 3.4 mm. The measured resonant frequency in all cases stayed at 1.55 GHz, as expected. In Figure 3, the resonant impedance is given for several distances d 2 between the radiating and capacitor patch and for capacitor patch diameters ranging from 5 to 35 mm. The agreement is very good for the resistance. A small shift is seen in the reactance. It is probably due to the use of the approximate slot model. It is clearly seen that the inductance of the probe can be canceled out by selecting the configuration with zero inductance and 50 ⍀ resistance. This allows the bandwidth to be broadened considerably. IV. CONCLUSION A network model is given for the calculation of the effect of a top capacitor patch on the impedance of a microstrip antenna. The main advantages of the procedure are that it is a very fast a posteriori procedure, it is easily implemented, and it gives full physical insight. Therefore, it is a very practical tool for antenna designers that want to use the concept of capacitive feeding.
Characterization of microwave planar transmission lines in multilayered medium
International Conference on Microelectronics, 1995
The results of the research in the characterization of microwave planar transmission lines in multilayered medium are presented in this paper. First of all, the significant acceleration of Green's functions convergence, which play an important role in the analysis of these structures, is achieved. The charge simulation method is successfully applied for determining the transmission parameters of multilayered structures, and
Characteristics of microstrip transmission lines with high-dielectric-constant substrates
IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1991
An efficient numerical code is developed from a full-wave analysis in the Fourier transform domain to determine the characteristics of a single-strip or multistrip coplanar transmission line. Modes of both even and odd symmetries are included. The impedance of the transmission line is calculated using the power-current equivalent model. Coupling constants between the even and the odd modes are also calculated. Results are provided for a shielded two-strip coupled microstrip transmission line on high-dielectric-constant substrate such as lanthanum aluminate with applications to superconducting transmission lines.
