The aim of the study is to determine the preference rankings higher education students' social media platform preferences for educational purposes. The most used social media platforms in which people spend their time are respectively Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, WhatsApp, and Facebook in Turkey. These nine social media platforms were scaled using the method of pair-wise comparison. Participants of the study were 492 higher education students in Turkey. Data analysis was done using the Thurstone V. equation of state equation. In this research, social media tools preferred by higher education students for educational purposes are listed respectively as Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, Twitter, Snapchat, Telegram, Pinterest, Facebook/FB Messenger and TikTok. Knowledge and Use of Social Networks in University Students from Mexico and Spain

It is unclear how social networks can be utilized in educational settings. An exploratory study was conducted to examine the differences between university students in Mexico and Spain in terms of their perceptions of knowledge and utilization of networks in the university environment. An overall sample of 378 students was collected from two public universities, one in Mexico and one in Spain. This study utilized descriptive statistics as part of a contingency analysis, X 2 with correction was used for the analysis of differences, Mann-Whitney U for the analysis of independence, Mantel-Haenszel test for association degree, Cramer's V for strength of association, Spearman's correlation coefficient for correlations. According to the results, the use of social networks is clearly related to country of origin, but not to gender. It seems that Instagram is a platform widely used by both Mexican and Spanish students, but it is not used in educational environments. Therefore, the use of social networks in higher education contexts differs by country, as does the knowledge of social bookmarking and the distribution of content to share information and resources.
Behavior of Students in Use of Social Network

The purpose of this article is to examine how students use social media based on six factors: field of study, level of study, year of study, gender, age, and income. To collect the data for this study, we conducted an online survey with an appropriate sample. In this study, a single construct was used to assess students' social media usage habits. We investigated the link between students' social media behaviors and their academic orientation, degree of study, year of study, gender, age, and income. According to the results of this study, students' social media use varies by field of study, does not differ by level of study, differs by year of study, differs by gender, differs by age, and does not differ by income. The sample was restricted to survey respondents due to time and financial limitations. Consequently, the study findings cannot be generalized to the entire population.
Motives and characteristics of Facebook use by students from a Romanian university

The increasing popularity of Facebook among university students is raising several research questions regarding the characteristics of use. In the context of modern school, the academic use and the usage related to the university context are of special interest. This paper aims at analyzing the motives for the use of Facebook and the characteristics of Facebook use by students from a Romanian university. The results show that the motives of using Facebook are mainly related to communicating with friends, to find out what happens in their university and to keep in touch with former high school colleagues. The results revealed significant differences between male and female students in terms of motives of using, network size, frequency and duration of use. Female students have more Facebook friends and spend more time on Facebook than male students. Moreover, significant differences exist between undergraduate and master students.
Use of Social Networks in University Studies: A Peruvian Case Study

The aim of this study was to determine the degree of addiction to social networks among students at a Peruvian university. The sample consisted of 3026 students (1768 females, 58.4%; 1258 males, 41.6%) from three different fields of study: social sciences, engineering, and biomedical sciences. Data were collected using the Social Media Addiction Scale–Student Form (SMA–SF), which was previously adapted to the Peruvian context, establishing four dimensions: satisfaction/tolerance, problems, obsession with being informed and need to be connected. Among the results obtained, it is possible to highlight factors that influence the use of social networks, such as, that their use varied according to age, year of university studies, gender, and area of study; in addition, significant differences in gender were observed, with men using them more for various activities and expressing feelings about their use. ABSTRAKT Internetové sociální sítě (Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Twitter, …) se staly skutečně významným jevem mezilidské komunikace a mají výrazný vliv na to, jakým způsobem mezi sebou lidé udržují spojení. V současnosti užívají sociální sítě milióny mladých lidí. Mezi nejaktivnější uživatele patří mládež ve věku 13-19 let. Z recentních studií vyplývá, že mládež tráví značnou část dne interakcemi na sociálních médiích a je třeba hledat fundované odpovědi na palčivou otázku vlivu sociálních sítí na vývoj mladých lidí. Jen málo je známo o základních údajích -v jaké míře, proč a jak mládež tyto sítě využívá. V rámci této studie se 561 univerzitních studentů různých národností zúčastnilo průzkumu, který pomáhá osvětlit aktivity mladých lidí v těchto internetových komunitách. Naše zjištění naznačují, že aktivní působení na sociálních sítích je pro tuto novou generaci zcela typické a že Facebook je nejčastěji využíván k udržení kontaktu, udržení se ve středu dění. Dále byl zjištěn silný vztah mezi užíváním Facebooku a závislostí na udržení sociálního kapitálu.
Social Media usage of the Students in a State University

The study focused on students’ Social Media Usage in a state university. Moreover, it used a descriptive correlational design. Using simple random in the selection process, the study respondents are the one hundred forty-five (145) college students of the State University in Cebu, Philippines. The study yielded that number of gadgets used is an indicator of the social media usage of college students. However, the study also revealed no significant relationship on demographics such the age, gender, year level, household income status, and parents’ occupation. More importantly, the advent of social media usage is controlled by minimizing its available electronic gadgets to avoid sedentary life and maintain the students' physical activity.
Social Networking as an Alternative Environment for Education

The main purpose of this research is to analyze the impact of social networks on educational process in Romanian higher education. Employing a theoretical framework regarding the educational value of the social networking web sites, we propose a model of implementing Facebook usage in higher education leaning processes. In order to support our argument, data were gathered through a survey on students and academics at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. Our results reveal that social networking sites have become very popular among students and might be considered as valuable tools for education. The study also opens a wide perspective on students' availability to use social networking sites, but also other web based technologies. While the literature concerning the educational process in Romania is scarce, we contribute by providing empirical evidence about the degree of availability of students and academics in using social networking sites for education.
The Reasons for Non-Use of Social Networking Websites by University Students
Although social networking websites (SNSs, especially Facebook) have become highly popular with youths, some university students do not want to participate in such sites. This study explores the underlying reasons for high-tech university students' non-use of social networking websites. The study group (n=20) consisted of 18 to 25-year-old undergraduate students, who were selected by the purposive sampling method. Data were collected from two large state universities in Turkey. Facebook, as one of the most popular social networking websites, was selected as a study context. Qualitative research methods were used in the data collection and analysis processes. The primary reasons for not using social networking websites were that they were perceived to be a waste of time, or an unnecessary tool; that they might lead to an addiction; that they might violate privacy concerns or share unnecessary information; and that they might invoke family concerns. Additionally, the findings indicated that most of the students did not trust virtual friendships, and did not like sharing photographs and political views online. This identification of non-user students' attitudes about SNSs will help us to better understand individual perceptions and experiences relating to these social services.
A new trend of socializing networks such as Facebook and WhatsApp has emerged among university students for academic purpose. This study aims to analyze the impact and usage of Facebook and WhatsApp for academic activities. A quantitative research method has been used in the study. This survey was conducted at eight major private universities of Karachi, Pakistan. The sample size of the study is three hundred students. The survey reveals an interesting fact that frequent use of Facebook and WhatsApp doesn't affect studies but it enhances collaborative learning among university students. Students perceive that Facebook is more helpful for receiving information regarding class activity and lecture than WhatsApp.
