Leadership Typology of Traditional Islamic Boarding School in Eastern Indonesia: Learning to Lead from DDI Mangkoso

This article aims to analyses the leadership style of Muslim priest (kyai) in traditional Islamic boarding school (pesantren) seeing from Weber's leadership theory in managing human resources, infrastructure, finance, and social capital in the pesantren for development. This research also intends to review the existence of selected traditional Islamic boarding school with the types of what Weber's explain in his article. Using library study in a qualitative approach in nature on several sources, i.e., library books, documents and information on the internet. DDI Mangkoso in South Sulawesi province was selected due to its long history as Islamic institution and their renowned and charismatic and transformative kyai since their early years of establishment. The analysis in this research somehow managed to reveal that the three Weber's patterns type is found in the leadership of kyai in several pesantrens around Indonesia including in DDI Mangkoso. Traditional leadership of DDI Mangkoso's kyai is strongly influenced by the tradition of education in pesantren which respects kyai's position as the leader and the founder of the pesantren. However, charismatic and transformative leadership through Anregurutta K.H. Abdul Rahman Ambo Dalle and KH Farid Wajedi were the two most influence styles among Kyai in DDI Mangkoso until now.

The kiai's activities give rise to diverse views among the people. Several factors are behind the differences in views, including the leadership factor. One of the reasons for this gap between the kiai is the lack of awareness of the kiai in administrative matters in the organization, so that a new breakthrough is needed for the kiai, namely by making efforts to empower the people. Educational leadership research has been more oriented toward western theories and contexts, ignoring the contextual conditions that shape leadership styles and characteristics. Role of Leadership in Organizational Change: A Case Study at Attaqwa Putra Islamic Boarding School Bekasi - Indonesia

Role of leadership Management of change Organizational change Islamic Boarding School This study aims to find out the leadership role in organizational change at Attaqwa Putra Islamic Boarding School Bekasi Indonesia. The research utilized a case study method. Meanwhile, data collection techniques were through the interview, observation, document analysis, and questionnaire. Analysis data used the reduction system, data display, and verification/conclusions. The results of the research, there are four important leadership roles in organizational change at the Attaqwa Putra Islamic Boarding School Bekasi. First, the Leader as the direction of the direction is reflected in the role of formulating a vision, inspiring subordinates to make changes, and focusing every activity to achieve the school's vision. Second, leaders as spokespersons are reflected in the role of leaders advising teachers, building relationships with principals through routine coordination meetings, coordinating with teachers through press meetings, and holding support from graduates. Third, leaders as coaches are reflected in the leadership role of building a work team, building trust, encouraging and motivating subordinates, and providing the best service. Fourth, leaders as agents of change are reflected in the role of leadership in deciding to make changes, innovate, anticipate future trends, and determine the direction of boarding school in the future. Contribution/ Originality: The paper's primary contribution is finding that leadership is important in making organizational changes. This study explores that visionary leader who is able to anticipate future trends by producing quality output is important for the realization of organizational change effectively. 1. Islamic principals practice various leadership styles, ranging from trait to transformational leadership styles. The shifts from one style to another have demonstrated some weaknesses of each style and led to the societal rejection of certain styles in response to environmental changes. This study aimed at introducing a new akhlaq leadership style involving four schools and four leaders at Malang Elementary Islamic excellent school. Transformational leadership plays an important role in the sustainable development of Islamic boarding schools. It has brought a positive and constructive influence on modern Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to analyze, describe and discover in detail Nyai's transformational leadership and its impact on Roudlotun Nasyiin Islamic Boarding School in Mojokerto. An Exploration Into Leadership Practice in Madrasah Aliyahs (Islamic-Based Senior High Schools) in Indonesia

This study investigates how principals exercise leadership to tackle the difficulties faced by Islamic Senior high schools or Madrasah Aliyahs of three areas in Indonesia: Western, Central and Eastern Indonesia. Employing qualitative methods, the researchers applied multiple case studies technique. The information gathered originated from separate case study classrooms, purposefully chosen madrasah Aliyahs/ Islamic-based high school from government, private, challenging and high-performing schools. It has been disclosed that madrasahs experience countless difficulties, including leadership, curriculum development, classroom equipment, financing and teacher efficiency. In the west and center of Indonesia, madrasahs mainly hampered by the poor infrastructure, learning facilities and lack of financial support, while in the east part beside the financial issues, teachers' performance become huge concerns.The madrasah managers, senior institutional officials, have a critical part to perform in solving these issues, in particular by developing teaching and learning procedures and improving the value of education and the enhancement of schooling. The study found that a kinship leadership is strongly indicated to the principal leadership behaviour. A culture embedded, leadership education, and experience gained by the leaders provide a deep insight on the way they lead an organisation. Change Management of Islamic Boarding Schools (Phenomenology Study at the Sumatra Thawalib Parabek Islamic Boarding School Bukitinggi)

This study focuses on the change management of the Thawalib Parabek Islamic boarding school from the elements of educators and education staff. This research was carried out using a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods. Data was collected by interviews, observation, study documentation, and field notes. Data analysis is conducted by reducing, coding, categories and setting themes. The data validity test was done through triangulation. The results of the study show that the Sumatra Islamic Boarding School Thawalib Parabek has engaged in some management changes in educators and education personnel including planning, recruitment, selection, orientation, placement and utilization, guidance and development, compensation, assessment of work implementation, and dismissal.
