The Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Student’s Academic Performance

Emotional intelligence combines the important aspects of interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships, adaptability, moods and stress management skills, which have an effect on students' academic performance. Thus, this study was carried out with the aim of examining the impact of emotional intelligence on students' academic performance of information technology and business management students. The independent variable includes self-awareness, self-motivation, empathy, emotional management and interpersonal skills while the depended variable is academic performance. This research adopted descriptive and explanatory research design. It also employ the use of cross sectional survey method using a survey questionnaires that contains 40 items with Likert Scale (Disagree-1 and 5 for Agree). The sample of 123 students from FTMS College, Cyberjaya and Erican College were selected using convenient sampling. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive means and regression via SPSS19. The Pearson's correlation coefficients of the five dependent variables have significant positive correlation with students' academic performance. However, using the regress analysis only two variable were significant and they include; empathy and self-motivation. The Impact of Emotional Intelligence Element on Academic Achievement

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the five emotional intellingence elements identified as self-awareness, emotional management, self motivation, empathy, interpersonal skills towards secondary school students' academic achievement. This study also aims to identify whether the five elements of emotional intelligence have been able to contribute to academic achievement. Statistical inference of the Pearson-r and multiple regression is used to analyze the data. The results showed that the significant relationship between self awareness (r = 0.21), emotional management (r = 0.21) and empathy (r = 0.21) at the level of p <0.05 with academic achievement. Multiple regression analysis (stepwise) result showed that only three elements of emotional intelligence which is self-awareness (ß = 0261), self motivation (ß =-0182) and empathy (ß = 0167) accounted for 8.7% of variation in criterion (academic achievement). Research also presented a model designed to reflect the relationship between the elements of emotional intelligence and academic achievement. These studies imply that the level of emotional intelligence contributes to and enhances the cognitive abilities in student. Thus, to produce a competent generation and successful country in line with the philosophy of education, persistence of the emotional intelligence in student is essential.

Emotions are the intense feelings towards some individual, event or situation without any cause. It could be agitation, disturbance of mind, passion, anger, grief, fear, enjoyment, surprise, love, shame, etc. One's ability to balance the emotions with the reason to maximize long-term happiness, and capability to recognize and manage one's as well as emotional awareness or emotional management skills. In the present dynamic and scientific environment, there is a corresponding rapid change in human lifestyles as it not only counts on the physical dimensions but connects to emotional aspects as well. It has also become more important to achieve academic excellence as the future hinges on learning and performance of students. So, with compelling changes in the environment following the economic crisis, both social and personal competencies are extremely important for a healthy and productive life in all aspects of life. The present study is designed to assess the emotional intelligence level of students of different strata. The purpose of this study is to study whether there are any relations of emotional intelligence on student effectiveness.

The Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Academic Success

Emotional intelligence is defined as a construct involving the ability of an individual to monitor their own and others' emotions, to discriminate among the positive and negative effects of emotion, and to use emotional information to guide their thinking and actions. This study was carried out to find the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and academic success and the association between emotional intelligence and major of study. The scores obtained on EQ-i and the GPA of 187 students of physical education, chemistry, mathematics, English and medicine were correlated. Results show a coefficient of correlation of 0.161 which is significant at 0.05 level of significance. This indicates no significant relationship between EI and academic success. Emotional Intelligence Characteristics of Students Studying at Various Faculties and Colleges of Universities

This research studied the emotional intelligence levels of university students in the context of emotional intelligence extents; the difference in terms of demographic qualities of students and the majors they study and the relationship between emotional intelligence of students and their academic achievements. For this purpose, a questionnaire was filled in by students studying at five different faculties of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. The results of the research revealed that there is not any significant difference in the relationship between the faculty of students and their emotional intelligence, apart from the sociability. Besides, it is concluded that there is a significant relationship between the emotional intelligence and academic achievements and that almost 11 % of change in academic achievements can be explained by emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence is one’s capacity to comprehend and organize their thoughts and emotions to relieve stress, have effective communication, and empathy, and handle things in a positive way to resolve conflicts. EI helps strengthen relationships, increase academic success, and attain one’s desired career and goals. This study is descriptive-correlational research, and it aims to determine if the emotional intelligence of the students has a relationship with their academic success at Laguna State Polytechnic University. 278 students were the respondents of this study. Most of the students are dealing with loaded of schoolwork and different problems in their lives that may hinder their outstanding performance in school. The researchers are inspirited to explore the students’ level of emotional intelligence and its relation to their success in academics. The researchers have employed a self-made questionnaire to measure the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic success. After the data gathering, the researchers utilized the Pearson R as their statistical treatment. The overall result showed that there is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and academic success at a 0.05 level of significance, and it leads to the rejection of the null hypothesis. It shows that the null hypothesis “There is no significant relationship between emotional intelligence and the academic success of third-year students at College of Arts and Sciences of Laguna State Polytechnic University Sta. Influence of Emotional Intelligence on Students’ Academic Achievements

Emotional aspects are very important in influencing the excellence of a student. Many past studies have proven that emotional intelligence affect academic achievement. Therefore, this study is aimed to identify students' emotional intelligence level and to what extent emotional intelligence influences students' academic achievement. A total of 406 people form 5 students from nine schools in Limbang District, Sarawak were involved in this study. Malaysia Intelligence Emotional Inventory - Teens (IKEM-R) was used to assess the level of students' emotional intelligence. A total of 49 items from this instrument was used to measure emotional intelligence of the respondents.
