Effects of COVID-19 on Businesses in Ilocos Norte, Philippines

The study investigates the effects of pandemic brought about by Covid-19 to Ilocos businesses and establishments. The participants of the study were the owners and employees of businesses in Ilocos Norte and they were selected using convenience sampling technique. The study employed a quantitative research design and a casual research approach to measure the relationship of presence of business continuity plan and perceived impact of Covid-19 and the mediating effect of type of industry. Using descriptive statistics, the findings divulged that many establishments created business continuity plan in response to the current pandemic. It is also revealed that most of the businesses are affected extensively with the pandemic. Effects of the pandemic include uncertainties, decline in productivity, demand and sales. Using simple structural equation modelling, the findings revealed that there is a positive relationship between presence of business continuity plan and effect of pandemic. However, with regards to the mediating effect of type of industry, there was no established effect. Implications, conclusion and recommendations were also provided in the study. 2

Effects of COVID-19 Pandemic on Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the Province of Ilocos Norte Philippines

The study investigates the effects of the pandemic brought about by Covid-19 on Ilocos businesses and establishments. The study participants were the owners of micro, small and medium businesses in Ilocos Norte, and they were selected using a convenience sampling technique. The study employed a quantitative research design, and the entrepreneurs were asked about the perceived impact of Covid-19. Using descriptive statistics, the findings divulged that the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the businesses ranged from retrenchment of employees, disruption in the supply chain, and temporary to permanent shutdown. The impact of the pandemic includes uncertainties, the decline in productivity, demand, and sales. Implications, conclusions, and recommendations were also provided in the study.

This pandemic is considered one of the strongest in the last century. Today’s situation allows us to look back and look at previous global pandemics, to analyze what developments in business have taken place in previous years. Small and Medium Enterprises Business Strategy in Pandemic COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world including Indonesia since early 2020 has had a significant impact on the Indonesian economy, especially in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) sector. This study aims to determine an efficient business strategy to survive the COVID-19 pandemic in Padangsidimpuan City. This study uses descriptive qualitative analysis techniques with semi-structured interview methods using purposive sampling in selecting sources and then analyzed with SWOT analysis and described in the form of a matrix so as to produce several alternative SME’s business strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic. BUSINESS ANALYSIS IN POST-PANDEMIC ERA

The Covid-19 pandemic has undoubtedly affected normalcy around the world, and has shifted traditional means of operation for businesses. With the introduction of worldwide lockdowns, consumer spending, workforce management and supply chains have been some of the areas most affected. These unexpected challenges force businesses to re-evaluate their strategies moving forward to mitigate the adverse impacts of the pandemic and adapt to the slowly evolving market conditions worldwide. The paper studies the effects of the pandemic on the UAE business environment and society through analyzing the employment growth rates of different sectors in the UAE for the first quarter of 2020 and compared it with their rates pre-pandemic (2010-2019). It was found that all sectors in the UAE suffered from negative growth, concluding that the pandemic has had a clear adverse economic effect on industries in the UAE. However, the uncertainty the pandemic has created has lead businesses to strategize for survival and, in doing so, focus more on organizational resilience and risk management. To steer clear from vulnerability and risk of business failure, an "entrepreneurial hustle" is needed to provide businesses with a competitive advantage in the post-pandemic era. This paper concludes with a hopeful observation that while many sectors in the UAE suffered economically, the UAE government's hands on initiatives to save businesses across the country has left many sectors on a stronger footing to withstand the after-effects post-pandemic era may throw their way. As result, this paper recommends economic diversification in the UAE to help transition its economy to a more sustainable path.

Business Resilience during the Pandemic in Indonesia

Micro Small Medium Enterprise (SME) is one of the main contributors to a nation's gross domestic product (GDP). However, with the currentCovid-19 pandemic, it has led to business closing and travel banning disrupting the SME business supply chain. Rahman (2020) highlighted that the SMEs are experiencing sales reduction, difficulty in financing the business and facing trouble in acquiring supply as well as distributing goods during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study aims to (a) describe the problems faced by SMEs during the Pandemic and the capacity of SMEs in solving these problems (b) analyze the survival strategy of SMEs in order to survive during the pandemic. This type of research is a qualitative case study. The research location is in Malang Raya, which includes the city of Malang, Malang district and the city of Batu, East Java.
