Character education is an educational concept to form and foster a Muslim personality as a whole (syumuliyah). This literature study aimed to determine the implementation of character education and supporting and inhibiting factors for the implementation of character education in formal schools in Indonesia. Data analysis techniques by means of data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Based on research findings, the trend of implementing character education in Indonesian formal schools has the same spirit in the content of character education. In formal schools with the status of public schools, the implementation of character education follows government regulations as stated in the Strengthening of Character Education (SCE), which is an implication of Islamic teachings. As for formal schools with private status on an Islamic basis, character education tends to be oriented towards cultivating akhlakul karimah (moral education) combined with government regulations. The implications of this research lead to the cultivation of character values that are embedded in social attitudes and spiritual attitudes as provisions for students' daily lives. The supporting and inhibiting factors for the implementation of character education are also discussed.

Good character education management needs to be developed based on the principles of character education, in implementing character education strategies that must be designed systematically, both concerning learning interactions, classroom management, utilization of character education resources, and assessment of character education. Implementation of Character Education at Elementary School Level in Sulawesi, Indonesia

This study aimed to describe the implementation of character education conducted at elementary school in Sulawesi, Indonesia. This study used descriptive qualitative research approach with the use of interview and questionnaire to collect the data. There were headmasters, teachers, and students from eight regions of Sulawesi to participate in the study as the research participants. Four character values were used to be the focus of the present study namely honesty, intelligence, care, and tenacity. Seven stages of character education strategy were used including giving assignment, habituating, training, teaching, guiding, modelling, and conditioning. Results showed that seven out of eight schools had implemented character education along with the seven required strategies, so that the students had been accustomed with the four character values that became the focus of the study. The ability of Indonesian schools related to the character education of students is still far from the expectations and mandate of the law. Based on the qualitative research conducted in the three schools in Indonesia, the current study shows that the educational process only introduce students to the standardized concepts with no involvement in social process and practices, which will give them experience and opportunities to adopt the character values. The school curriculum only forms the ideal type of character, does not stimulate the active involvement of students in the community. Students only learn the character, based on dominant values constrained by the state, i.e.: having loyalty, defending the country, and loving homeland. Character Issues: Reality Character Problems and Solutions through Education in Indonesia
Weak character education raises the problem of corruption, a fight between students, free sex, drugs and rape/abortion indicate that the issue of character education of the nation must be improved and the concern of all parties, the nation's leaders, law enforcement officers, educators, religious leaders, groups and other etc. There are two important issues about the educational character of the nation; Orientation bias and bias value national character education focus of the nation. This paper includes concern for the problems faced by Indonesia in terms of character education, and then analyze the facts and the reality that is happening, in this paper discussed the alternative settlement. Character development if it is to effectively and intact is the reform of education through curriculum changes to include three institutions, namely the family, school and community. The first step to do is reconnect relations and educational networks that breaking point between the third educational institution. Without the three institutions, education programs in schools only a discourse character alone will not work because there is no continuity and harmonization.

The commemoration of National Education Day May 2, 2010 has featured a new theme of Indonesian education called "Character Education" promoted by the Minister of Education, Muhammad Nuh. Since then, character education has been interpreted in various way ranging from establishing a separated subject to integrating character education in all subjects at schools. This paper is aiming at looking closer into character education in Indonesia by narrating the history of character education, the urgency, the master plan, the comparison to other countries' program, the challenges as well as the opportunities that could be considered by the education practitioners, teachers, and educators in all around Indonesia who are committed to raise better character on students.

In 2016, the Indonesian Government emphasized character education by sparking a Character Strengthening Program or Program Penguatan Karakter/PPK to build and strengthen the students’ character. This program focuses on character building but it mainly highlights five main good characters which are religiosity, nationalism, integrity, independence, and cooperation. This study aims to deeply understand the perspective of students, teachers, and schools toward knowledge and value of character education and to explore the linkage among them as a complete picture. Nowadays, moral education or character education; has become a relevant way to resolve moral crisis happens in Indonesia. When we said about moral crisis, it all refers to corruption, fornication, children and teen abuse, peer to peer violence, juvenile delinquency, the habit of cheating in exam, drugs abuse, pornography, and anarchy. All of it has become social problems that we still do not have the answer on how to resolve. Thus, based on the matter, character education obviously becomes an important thing to be implemented.

The Indonesian nation is a large nation, with a population of around 240 million people, occupies the fourth position in the world, but has very complex and serious problems, such as the fragility of commitment to the basic values of life that are becoming guidelines, which we know as views nation's life.
