LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE OF NURSING MOTHERS ABOUT THE PRACTICE OF EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING (Atena Editora), 2022

Goal: To assess the level of knowledge of nursing mothers about the practice of Exclusive Breastfeeding (EBF) and causes of early weaning in private institutions in the Federal District. Methods: The people who participated in the research: 102 nursing mothers with a mean age of (mean 31.13 ± 5.22), who answered a questionnaire consisting of 11 questions. Results: All mothers knew about EBF, but 73.79% did not perform it, and only 17.47% had been guided by a health professional regarding EBF, 46% of nursing mothers did not breastfeed their children. Conclusion: The practice of breastfeeding undoubtedly presents achievements and advances. However, the number of early weaning is significant, as can be seen in the practice of breastfeeding, low rate of mothers who underwent EBF, and mothers oriented about the practice of EBF.

ASSESSMENT OF KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE OF ANTENATAL MOTHERS TOWARDS BREASTFEEDING

Introduction: Breastfeeding is an unequalled way of providing ideal food for the healthy growth and development of infants. Antenatal counseling is very useful for ensuring breastfeeding in postnatal period Objectives: Assessment of antenatal services with respect to information about benefits of breastfeeding practices and Assessment of knowledge about benefits of breastfeeding amongst the beneficiaries of the hospitals under study. Methodology: Antenatal mothers attending the OPD were interviewed about their knowledge regarding breastfeeding practices and about the hospital services for imparting this knowledge or information. Results: Out of total 200 antenatal beneficiaries 81.5%were having knowledge about benefits of exclusive breast feeding 37 (18.5%) answered don’t know (p value >0.05 not significant statistically). Out of total 200 antenatal beneficiaries 61 (30.5%) were informed about exclusive breast feeding and 139(69.5%) were not informed, (p value <0.05 significant statistically). Conclusion: Majority of ANC women attending the OPD were not aware about Exclusive Breast Feeding (EBF), however they were having good knowledge about the benefits of breast feeding. The major source of information being doctors rather than paramedical staff, calls for more attention and training of nurses and other supporting hospital staff regarding Baby Friendly Hospital.

Application of a Questionnaire to Pregnant Women to Assess their Knowledge Regarding Breastfeeding

Introduction: Breastfeeding is able to provide many benefits to the health of the child, the woman and the society. It is essential for a good child development and for the prevention of diseases. If the child is nurtured exclusively with breast milk until 6 months of age, it can avoid impacts on infant mortality. For this, it is essential to start the guidance on the importance of correct breastfeeding, in prenatal and postpartum, clearing doubts and frequent difficulties, as well as protecting the right to exclusive breastfeeding. Objective: to assess the level of knowledge about breastfeeding. Methodology: Exploratory research on the knowledge of pregnant women in the state of Rondônia about breastfeeding. This research was carried out in the Google Drive Forms platform, consisting of 19 questions prepared by the students, accompanied by the attached ICF. Results: It was noticed that even though the pregnant women had previous knowledge about breastfeeding, the percentage of women who breastfed exclusively with breast milk was equivalent to those who did not breastfeed. Conclusion: we can evaluate that the interviewees have good prior knowledge about breastfeeding, understanding that breast milk is the best food for the infant.

Breastfeeding of mothers attending the outpatient clinic of Reina Sofia University Hospital (Cordoba, Spain)

Background: Although the beneficial effects of breastfeeding are well-known, the prevalence of breastfeeding in many developed countries is quite low. Objective: The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of breastfeeding in the catchment area of Reina Sofia University Hospital of Cordoba (Spain). Materials and Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted for mothers attending the outpatient clinic of Reina Sofia University Hospital of Cordoba, for follow-up after 6 weeks of delivery. All mothers attending the outpatient clinic over 3 months accepted to participate in the study. Finally, we had a sample of 91 mothers. Perception of women regarding the practice of breastfeeding: an integrative review / Percepção de mulheres quanto à prática do aleitamento materno: uma revisão integrativa

Objetivo: Identificar o conhecimento científico produzido acerca da percepção das mulheres quanto à prática do aleitamento materno. Método: Revisão integrativa com busca dos artigos nas bases de dados MEDLINE, Pub/Med, LILACS, BDENF, PubMed Central: PMC e CINAHL, de 2008 a 2015, sendo selecionados 30 artigos. Resultados: Da análise emergiram as categorias: vantagens do aleitamento materno; mitos e tabus em torno da amamentação; sentimentos contraditórios ao amamentar; aspectos culturais; manejo da amamentação e recomendações para a prática. Conclusão: As percepções das mulheres em relação à amamentação, podem contribuir para a elaboração de recomendações com vistas a assistir a nutriz numa perspectiva que vai além da técnica respeitando os significados e práticas atribuídas à amamentação pelas mulheres.Descritores: Aleitamento Materno, Percepção, Enfermagem.

Exclusive Breast Feeding: Knowledge, Barriers and Practice among Antenatal Clinic Attendees at a Tertiary Hospital in a Developing Country

Background: Breast milk is natural and readily available. Exclusive breast feeding has been found to be benecial to the infants, mothers and the nation at large. However, the practice of exclusive breast feeding is suboptimal in developing and developed world. The objective of this study was to assess the knowledge, practice and barrier to practice of exclusive breast feeding among pregnant women attending antenatal clinic in University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study among consenting pregnant women attending antenatal clinic at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Pregnant women with at least one previous live birth were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected with the aid of a pretested questionnaire. Sociodemographic information, information on knowledge, perception, and intention to practice exclusive breast feeding were obtained and analyzed using IBM-SPSS statistics version-23. Association between categorical variables were determined using chisquare. Results: Majority of the respondents were within the age range of 30-39 years. All respondents were aware of exclusive breast feeding and 215 (86.0%) of them had good knowledge of exclusive breast feeding. The participants that had practiced exclusive breast feeding in their previous pregnancies were 151(60.4%). There was a statistically signicant association between previous practice of EBF and the intention to practice it after the delivery of the index pregnancy (p = 0.003). Resumption to work was the commonest barrier the practice of Exclusive Breast Feeding. Conclusion Respondents had good knowledge, positive perception towards exclusive breast feeding and majority practiced exclusive breast feeding.

To Assess Knowledge, Attitude and Knowledge of Practice Regarding Breast Feeding Among Primi Para Mothers

The study was conducted on 35 primi para mothers admitted in Krishna hospital, Karad. A evaluative survey approach was considered. Study design was descriptive purposive sampling technique was used. The instrument used for data collection was a structured interview schedule. RESULTS: The present study found that 11(31.42%) having good knowledge, 22(62.85%) having average knowledge and 2(5.71%) having poor knowledge. Related to attitude of mothers majority of 20(57.14%) having average attitude of breast feeding and 19(54.28%) mothers were not using knowledge of practice for giving breast feeding to new born baby. CONCLUSION: Majority of 60% mothers having good knowledge of breast feeding but they were not practicing the knowledge of breast feeding. Also there was no association found in-between knowledge, attitude, and practice with socio-demographic variable. Breastfeeding: The Knowledge of the Partner within the Pre-Birth Program in Rondonia, North of Brazil

The process of breastfeeding is older than human existence, but still complex, involves several factors that contribute positively or negatively to the practice. The objective of this study was to describe the knowledge of the members of the male pre-birth program in a Family Health Unit in the city of Cacoal (Rondônia, North of Brazil) on the importance of breastfeeding. The research was conducted in the months of February, March, April, 2018, after signing the consent form. A qualitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study was obtained through interviews with the partners of the pregnant women enrolled in this Family Health Unit. The sample consisted of 20 partners, the results were: 09 (45%) of the partners were between 22 and 30 years of age, 13 (65%) are married, 4 (20%) work as a general helper, 10 (50%) of them did not complete the first degree, 10 (50%) interviewed attended a pre-birth visit, 16 (80%) partners never participated in the meetings promoted by the basic health unit, it was observed that 18 (90%) attended the examinations laboratory tests, and USG), 18 (90%) reported that their companion attended a course of preparation for childbirth. Regarding the partners' knowledge about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, it can be observed that 15 (75%) did not know the advantages of breastfeeding for the baby, 12 (60%) correlated the infant's development with breastfeeding, 11 (55%) did not (40%) answered that the economy is the biggest advantage for the couple, 7 (35%) claimed that breastfeeding should be performed up to 1 year of age. It is concluded that partners have no knowledge about breastfeeding, little participation was observed during pregnancy. The male pre-birth program is the way to contribute to the training of the partners' knowledge about the pregnancy cycle, making it necessary to implant them in the other health units of the family.
