Marketing Challenges and Trends Influencing Wine Producers and Consumers
Journal of Business and Management Studies
The global wine market is constantly evolving, and wine producers need to adapt to climate change and, in some cases, to new marketing trends to remain competitive and sustain their business. The main aim of this article is to highlight, conceptually, the main marketing issues and trends that can affect both consumers and wine producers. To meet this objective, we have adopted a conceptual approach. We draw on a recent literature review, our understanding of the wine industry and a few statistics and professional articles, to describe how these marketing trends influence consumer choices and, in some cases, the marketing strategies of wineries. This article therefore provides a more general and synthetic view of some of the marketing issues and trends that can impact both producers and consumers in the wine industry. We'll be focusing on six trends: wine in boxes and bags, e-commerce, digital marketing, immersive experiences, natural and organic wine, and transparent labeling. M...

Knowing consumer preferences on the demand of different products is the key to success for different businesses. Different customers have different preferences regarding the demand for goods and services. Factors affecting demand determine the quantity required for a good. Some of these factors are: sales price, consumer income, consumer preferences, consumer forecasts for the future, substitute and complementary goods prices, etc. By knowing and analyzing these factors well we are able to determine consumer choices for goods and services. In this paper we will analyze how some of the factors determining demand affect apple consumption. The study refers to a survey conducted for casual consumers in the Tirane area on the preferences and quantities consumed by this product.
Growing Apples for Hard Cider Production in the United States—Trends and Research Opportunities
HortTechnology, 2020
Hard cider, made by fermenting apple (Malus ×domestica) juice, was at one time the most widely consumed alcoholic beverage in America. Largely abandoned after Prohibition, within the past 2 decades the rise in popularity of craft beverages has led to the reemergence of hard cider as an alternative to beer, wine, and spirits. Today, hard cider represents one of the fastest growing sectors within the craft beverage industry. The recent interest in cider presents additional marketing opportunities for apple growers and businesses currently involved in, or considering entering, the apple cider or craft beverages industries. However, the lack of a strong history or experience in selecting, producing, and using cider apples poses a significant challenge to this emerging market. This article reviews the current state of research in cider apple production, including economic feasibility, mechanized management, and cultivar evaluation and improvement.

The exponential expansion of the global cider market positions it as a viable alternative to traditional choices such as wine and beer. Nevertheless, there exists a paucity of research examining the various factors influencing consumer interest in cider. This article undertakes an analysis of the cider consumption experience, with a specific focus on consumer preferences related to distinct quality attributes, encompassing factors like brand, organic certification, and protected designations of origin (PDO). This analysis also takes into consideration the socio-demographic profile, frequency of consumption, and willingness to pay (WTP). Our study concentrates on the Canary Islands in Spain, an area where no formal certification system yet exists to differentiate locally produced cider in the market. Our data collection methodology encompassed face-to-face surveys administered to a probabilistic sample of 1000 respondents in the Canary Islands. The results demonstrate that consumers who place emphasis on quality attributes such as commercial brands, organic certification, and PDOs, tend to assign value to various cognitive aspects of the product. Conversely, those who do not prioritize these quality attributes tend to emphasize the affective dimension of the product and the specific consumption occasions. Additionally, consumers who accord the highest importance to PDOs exhibit a WTP a premium price. The findings of this study hold valuable implications for policymakers and cider manufacturers, aiding them in identifying opportunities for the promotion of Canary Islands cider, both within the local market and on a global scale.
Effect of Quality Characteristics on Consumers' Willingness to Pay for Gala Apples
Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics-revue Canadienne D Agroeconomie, 2007
This paper uses individual apple-level data that include consumer sensory assessments and instrumental measurements of internal quality to analyze willingness to pay for Washington State Gala apples. Three distinct models are estimated: a model that includes destructive internal quality measures of apple characteristics, a model that utilizes only non-destructive internal quality measures, and a consumer model that includes subjective consumer sensory evaluations and consumer socio-demographic characteristics. The objective is to identify instrumental measures of internal quality that can be used to inform the apple industry of consumer preferences. The consumer model serves as a benchmark. Finally, we evaluate whether non-destructive measures of internal quality can substitute for destructive measures. We find that firmness and soluble solids content are significant and can be measured effectively using non-destructive measures. Implications of the findings for the apple industry in terms of marketing and possible “elite” standards for apples are discussed.
