Membincang Pendekatan Kontekstualis Abdullah Saeed Dalam Memahami Al-Qur’An

Qur’anic studies never ends. It is done by both intellectual moslems and orientalists (non moslem). Abdullah Saeed, an intellectual moslem who lives in non moslem area (Australia), is one of those who studies Qur’an deeply. To understand and interpret Qur’an contextually, he offers an approach called contextualist approach. Then, Saeed also makes hierarchy of values taken from Qur’anic verses. This is known that not all verses must be conformed to place and time, but some should be understood and interpreted universally. While others depend on place and time (particularly). The steps of interpreting, called model of interpretation by Saeed, with contextualist approach encounter with the world of the text, critical analysis, meaning for the first recipients, and meaning for the present. an example of Saeed’s interpretation of the verses about usury connected to interest is given in the last of this article.

In South Kalimantan, the manuscripts on tafsir up to this present were not found. Thetopics were dominated by the sufism and jurisprudence. This fact, actually become thegeneral phenomena in Indonesia. The manuscript was discussed here speak aboutbalaghah knowledge , especially on Majaz. By this manuscript, the writer want tomake a relation between manuscript of non-tafsir and the tafsirs study. Here, thewriter use the filology approach, while for the tafsir, writer analyzed the verses in thetext using the tafsir approach. Actually, the verses were qouted here only five verses, evenit part of the verses. The qouted verses here were examples of the quran than containedthe study of majaz. The explanation of writer on that verses of quran is a tafsiraccording to the writes.

The concept of Islam in the Qur'an interpreted in two interpretation techniques that are understood textually and contextually. These two perspectives have different focus, Islam in textual understanding is more focused on the text as it is in the sense of a standard, institutionalized, holistic creed, creed, and doctrine that governs all aspects of human life. While contextual in addition to paying attention to the text also consider the elements of the context that surrounds the text which is a religious instrument with a set of doctrines that are universal and progressive, interpreted in accordance with his nature as a religion rahmatan li al-'alamin, may not be rigid or static. Call it the two interpreters who represent these two schools, Sayyid Qutb and Rashid Rida. This paper will describe briefly from the meaning of Islamic language to its use in several verses along with the views of some figures and scholars about the meaning of Islam both textually and contextually.

Qur’anic Interpretation has an important place in the development of Muslim intellectual traditions and Islamic civilization in general. As a major source of Islamic teachings, Muslims have for centuries ago tried to understand the meaning of the Qur'an to fit the needs of the times, one of which is by the way of contextualization. This article discusses Abdullah Saeed's thought on contextual exegesis of the Quran. The background of Abdullah Saeed's thought on the importance of conducting contextual exegesis was based on the solid domination of literal (textual) commentary of the Quran, particularly regarding ethics-legal verses. Based on Saeed's point of view, ethic-legal verses commentary must account for social changes to support the close relationship between Quran and the current Muslims. Several intellectual figures influenced Abdullah Saeed's thoughts related to contextual exegeses, such as Fazlur Rahman, Ghulam Ahmad Parvez, Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, Mohammed Arkoun, Farid Esack, and Khaled Abou El Fadl. The theoretical foundations of the Quran contextual exegesis proposed by Abdullah Saeed can be traced back through his notion on revelation concept, the flexibility of meaning, and text meaning as a commentary.

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pemikiran Yusuf Qardawi dalam karyanya al-Sahwah al-Islamiyyah Bayn al-Juh}ud wa al-Tatarruf. Karya tersebut menjelaskan secara impilisit adanya pengaruh pemahaman hadis secara tekstual terhadap radikalisme beragama. Dalam karya lainnya yaitu Kayf Nata‘amal ma’a al-Sunnah al-Nabawiyah Ma‘alim wa Dawabit, Yusuf Qard}awi menjelaskan secara implisit bahwa kontekstualisasi pemahaman hadis dapat dijadikan upaya dalam mencegah sikap ekstrem dalam memahami hadis.
