Effects of SiO2 on Thermal and Optical Properties of Na-alginate/TiO2/SiO2 composite thin films (original) (raw)

Abstract

Sodium alginate (NaC6H7O6)/Titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin films have been successfully developed by depositing SiO2 by using solution casting process at room temperature. The absorbance and transmittance of light had been determined by UV-visible spectroscopy and from transmittance data band gap of the composites were calculated. The smallest band gap of 2.82 eV is found for the 6% SiO2 containing composite while 0% SiO2 containing composite exhibits band gap to be 3.19 eV. Thermal Properties of the films were characterized by thermo gravimetric/differential thermal analyzer (TG/DTA). The experimental results reveal that the blended films exhibit higher stability and improved thermal properties, which suggests the occurrence of interaction detected by FTIR among sodium alginate, TiO2, SiO2, and water molecules in the films. Semiconducting composite thin films have useful applications for solar cells and optoelectronics. Thus, sodium alginate/TiO2/SiO2 nanocomposite films have attracte...
