1876 RUS İŞGALİ ÖNCESİNDE FERGANA VADİSİ’NİN SOSYO-KÜLTÜREL YAPISI ÜZERİNE BİR DEĞERLENDİRME (original) (raw)
GEÇMİŞTEN GELECEĞE TÜRK DÜNYASI SEMPOZYUMU
Ferghana Valley, which has hosted various nations for centuries, has created a unique civilization in terms of culture and politics. The Kokand Khanate was established in 1709 in the valley, which was home to various Turkish states until the 18th century. The khanate, which did not have a homogeneous appearance as an ethnic element, included different nationalities and religious beliefs. The khanate, which was managed according to the old Turkish traditions and Islamic principles, fell into the position of a "market/bazaar" for England and Russia, which could not keep up with the technological developments after the industrial revolution. As a result of centuries of incomplete or wrong religious education, the people and rulers, who had a "fatalistic" understanding, ignored the modernization of the army. Russia, which is approaching from the north day by day and seeing the Fergana Valley as a "white gold" (cotton) reserve, has stood at the gates of the valley by establishing first commercial and then political relations. Kokand rulers competed with each other for the throne instead of fighting with Russia. By the time of 1876, Russia had achieved its goal and annexed the valley with the name of "Fergana Oblast". The fact that the valley, which was ruled by the Turks for centuries, suddenly became open to Russian invasion is an issue that needs to be carefully examined.
