Rhabdomyolysis following cardiac surgery: from prevalence to prevention (original) (raw)

This study investigates the prevalence of rhabdomyolysis (RML) following cardiac surgery, focusing on its association with acute kidney injury (AKI) and identifying preoperative risk factors. A prospective study enrolling 202 patients showed a high incidence of RML, particularly in cases of aortic dissection, and demonstrated that early increases in serum myoglobin and creatine kinase levels may predict the onset of AKI. Early diagnosis through myoglobin testing can facilitate timely interventions to prevent further renal complications.
