consequence of domestic violence on the academic performance of School Children

ABSTRACT This research work was carried out to examine the consequences of domestic violence on the performance of school children. The research methodology utilizes descriptive statistics with simple numbers and percentages in the analysis and synthesizing of primary sources of data collected via questionnaire, as well as diverse literature on the area of study. However, the findings revealed that commitment by parents; caregivers and teachers in carrying out their responsibilities seem to be on the decline. The study further exposes some inherent challenges and abuses faced by learners in unsuitable living conditions. The implications of such situations are that learning institution should ascertain possible ways of liberating the affected learner and educate the parents, caregivers and teachers on the negative effects of perpetuating domestic violence. It is therefore, recommended that, Government should establish and fund counselling centres at the community, and Local Government levels and employ professional counsellors to help victims and perpetrators of domestic violence.

EDUCATION: A WEAPON TO DIMINISH THE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Education is basic indicator to sweep the evils from the society and give better sense of living standard along with better future planning. The education is hallmark to social development and ultimately the progress of nation and country. The domestic violence is prevalent around the globe and the situation of Pakistani women are Vis a Vis to the developing countries of the world. The violence against women has its roots in the traditional system of society and especially the patriarchal system has made it more ideological for men and women are subjugated in all spheres of life. This study focused the violence against women which can be reduced by the prevalence of education in rural and urban setting whereas malfunctioning is seen at great expense. To explore the nexus of education and domestic violence on women the study was conducted in urban and rural area of Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The sample size was taken 600 household equally from rural and urban areas. The non-probability, convenient, sampling technique was used. The research concluded that education is very necessary to sway the evils from society mainly the domestic violence can be eradicated by adopting the education and hence the awareness can be raised among the marginalized sections of the society acutely.

An Investigation into the Causes of Domestic Violence and Their Effects on Learning in Early Childhood Development Centres in Lugari District, Kenya

There has been growing recognition of the prevalence of domestic violence in our society. Domestic violence is a social vice that is likely to have far reaching consequences to children and to the society. The exposure of children to violence at home affects children's socialization. This study sought to investigate the causes of domestic violence and their effects on the learning of children in ECDE centres in Lugari District. The objectives that the study sought to establish were; causes of domestic violence; establish the effects of the factors of domestic violence on the learning of ECDE children; establish the performance of children who had been victims of domestic violence and suggest possible solutions to domestic violence in communities. The study employed the descriptive survey design. A sample of 15 ECD centres, 15 ECD teachers, 60 ECD children, one Chief and one Church elder was taken through purposive and random sampling techniques. Secondary data was collected from available literature such as books, journals, periodicals among others. The data for this study was collected from primary and secondary sources. Primary data was collected using questionnaires, interview schedules and observation method was also used. Data gathered was analyzed through descriptive statistics and results presented in frequency tables using frequencies and percentages. Majority of the respondents identified poverty within the society as a cause of domestic violence, together with drunkard ness, unfaithful within the family and by drug abuse. Exposure to immorality comprised of the highest rating of the forms causing domestic violence followed by abusive language rated secondly high and the exposure to violent scenes were rated thirdly high. The battery of children and exposure of children to harsh environment were rated the highest and low factors respectively for the existence of domestic violence. Exposure to violent scenes, the use of abusive language and the exposure to immorality were the least forms of domestic violence experienced. All forms of domestic violence have one purpose, to gain and maintain control over the victim.The effects of domestic violence were poor performance rated highest, followed by dropping out of school, reported cases of indiscipline and least being brain damage. The tragic reality is that anytime a mother is abused by her partner, the children are also affected in both overt and subtle ways. The children's performance of school tasks and tests varied significantly during the study with majority of the children performing below average compared to those who perform above average in their learning. The solutions towards domestic violence identified guidance and counselling as a major solution towards domestic violence victims. Majority of them were of the opinion that creating community awareness on the disadvantages of domestic violence was important. The creation of employment opportunities and formation of community based organizations were the least solution identified. The researcher recommends that there is need for the empowerment of children at home and school to enable them make good decisions, interpret school tasks and perform well in school tests. There is no easy solution to the problem of domestic violence as its elimination requires changes in the very nature of society.

Experiences of educated youth exposed to domestic violence: Social impact to their lives

The number of cases of domestic violence against women and children in Indonesia has escalated year by year. Various studies have revealed the impact of family violence on children, but few have sought to investigate the sociological lives of youth who have been exposed to domestic violence since childhood. This study aimed to reveal the experiences of educated youth who are exposed to domestic violence and its impact on them. This study used a qualitative method. The research informants were educated youth who had been victims of domestic violence and were currently students in the university. The results showed that children who were victims of exposure to violence had bad experiences throughout their lives. They recorded domestic violence from childhood to growing up. They believe that parents and families are parties that are unable to provide protection. In addition, exposure to violence also causes mental health disorders, poor psychological conditions, and thoughts of refusing to marry. This study concludes that exposure to domestic violence has a serious impact on children's social development because from childhood to adulthood they grow up in a violence zone.

Analysis of Domestic Violence Against Higher Secondary School Girls Students

Domestic Violence occurs when a family member, partner or ex-partner attemptsto physically or psychologically dominate another. Domestic violence often refers toviolence between spouses, or spousal abuse but can also include cohabitants and non-married intimate partners. Domestic violence occurs in all cultures; people of allraces, ethnicities, religions, sexes and classes can be perpetrators of domesticviolence. Domestic violence is perpetrated by both men and women, occurring in bothsame-sex and opposite-sex relationships. Education is the process of instruction aimed at the all-round development of boysand girls. Education dispels ignorance. It is the only wealth that cannot be robbed.Learning includes the moral values and the improvement of character and the methodsto increase the strength of mind.

Educator’s Modes of Identifying and Coping with Pupil’s Exposure to Domestic Violence in Schools in East Jerusalem

The phenomenon of child abuse and violence towards them has negative effects on children at diverse levels: the social level, the personal level, the physical level, and emotional level. Various studies around the world have examined the extent of the phenomenon and its dimensions, methods of handling it, and developing the services for treating it, including a program for its prevention. This paper includes a first of its kind study in East Jerusalem that deals with the teachers' and educators' ability & Modes to identify, and ways of coping in schools there, with cases of children who suffer domestic abuse. It discusses identifying attributes of educators' coping in schools there with problems of domestic violence towards children. The analysis of the study results shows that educators have the ability to identify, and the knowledge of the subject of domestic violence, their method of treatment varies between internal work with the student himself and coping through the welfare services and the police. However, they still face many difficulties dealing with the cases: systemic difficulties and the barriers, family difficulties and the barriers, barriers by the teacher's families, parents' pressure on the students, and political difficulties and barriers.

The school and the teacher play a fundamental role in welcoming students who experience situations of violation of the integrity of their lives, in cases of aggression and abuse that may occur. Research shows that the highest incidence of violence against children and adolescents often occurs in the family environment, believing it to be a way of educating or often reproducing what they also suffered. Therefore, the objectives of this article are to understand the role of the school and the teacher in caring for the child who suffers violation; raise the rates of violence in the city of Bertioga-SP; and, to verify if the teachers perceive alteration in the learning process of this child.
