The article discusses the constitution of the field of Digital History, the ways in which historians are investigating the virtual sources that are produced and circulate in digital networks, attracting some difficulties and care that historians need to take when criticizing these sources. It discusses the monopolization and control of the internet, through digital social networks and algorithms by technological platforms such as Google, Twitter, Facebook, You Tube and the centrality they have acquired in the public debate in recent decades. Networks are virtual spaces of sociability interaction and political activism, friendships, affective relationships, privacy, entertainment, communication, literacy, imaginary, circulation of ideas and work, and for this reason , historians of the present time, interested in social aspects, politicians and academics of contemporary societies cannot ignore these records built on networks, which belong to cybernetic culture, or the potential of networks as a method of historical investigation, dissemination and collective.
