TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS IN LIBYA

More than 1.2 million people die in road accidents and between 20 and 50 million people get injured every year around the globe. In Libya 50000 people died in road accidents during the last forty years from 1969 to 2009. This unpleasant fact was revealed recently in the Global Status Report on Road Safety released in 2008 by the World Health Organization. In Libya which is one of the richest and development countries with only 6 million peoples, suffers from congestions and increase number of cars and this was accompanied by the incidents that led to heavy losses in the lives and damages. And the road traffic accidents in Libya do not represent a social problem only, but also an economic problem that cost the country a lot of money, makes it one of the most affected countries, especially from traffic accidents that lead to the death of the equivalent to 6 people per day by (The Secretariat of the Libyan justice). This number is considered too large for a state that does not exceed the population of more than five million people. The increasing of traffic accidents in Libya dramatically might be 25 deaths per day by (The Libyan Secretariat of Health) in the coming years unless the State could take measures a real measure. This paper suggests some solutions that could be take to reduce traffic accidents.

This study aims to explore the pattern of road traffic accidents and their causes in Libya compared to some developed countries. In 2008, 13,725 Injured 2332 killed 13,352 accidents. The data was obtained from General Administration of Traffic and Authorizations in Libya. There was an increase in the number of registered cars as well as the majority of the deaths comprised of young the people. In the last ten years, there were increase accidents, injuries, fatalities and has become an epidemic to the country. Strictly, application of the traffic lows as well as national media converge on traffic accident improvement comprise should be increased.

An Analysis of Traffic Accidents in Libya, and Some Mitigation Strategies

Abstract: The Economic growth in Libya in recent decades also led to a stunning growth in the number of vehicles on Libyan roads, which is easily the key factor responsible for an alarming increase in the incidence of traffic accidents. Population congestion and increasing numbers of motor vehicles, which is accompanied by consequent traffic accidents that lead to the loss of life and property. Traffic accidents in Libya are economic and social problem, burden and loss implied to the country, making Libya one of the worst affected countries in the world with respect to Traffic accidents and injuries that lead to the death 6.5 people in day - an astounding statistic, given the small population. The dramatic rates of increase in traffic accidents and injuries in Libya Will lead to the deaths of 25 people per day in the coming years if the government takes appropriate and effective for reduce road traffic accidents. This paper suggests some solutions thereto.

ANALYSIS OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS IN LIBYA

Road traffic accidents is one of the most important problems facing developing countries; the death due to traffic accidents around the world is 1.2 million people and between 20 to 50 million people are injured each year. In the World Health Organization (WHO) report issued in 2008, revealed that 50 thousand people died in Libya on the public roads during the period of 1969 to 2009 Libya suffers from the concentration of population in major cities where the Libyan population comprised of 5.125 million people for an area of 1,760,000 square kilometres. The dense population in cities led to congestion and increase number of accidents inside the cities. The purpose of this study is to analysis road accidents in six major cities which recorded the highest number of accidents in recent years, to understand important factors causing accidents and to suggest possible solutions that may reduce traffic accidents.

CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS IN TRIPOLI - LIBYA

The increase in per capita income and low-priced in gasoline have resulted in vehicles easily acquired by individuals in Tripoli, Libya. The increases in vehicles ownership and traffic congestion have caused traffic accidents, fatalities and injuries at alarming rate. Traffic accidents have contributed severe social and economic problem costing the country dearly and lead to the death of 6.5 people per day according to statistics 2010. In Libya having population not exceeding 6 million people, the number of deaths is considered too large. Efforts should be intensify the awareness among drivers and specifically youths because youths are the most vulnerable group and are more prone to accidents due to their well-known inclination and especially in the age group of 25 to 35 Accident involvement rate for male was 49%, but for female 38%. In the coming years if government could not take serious measures to reduce of traffic accidents it may increase to 25 deaths daily.

The Dilemma of Road Safety in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia: Consequences and Prevention Strategies

Road traffic crashes (RTCs) are one of the most critical public health problems worldwide. The WHO Global Status Report on Road Safety suggests that the annual fatality rate (per 100,000 people) due to RTCs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has increased from 17.4 to 27.4 over the last decade, which is an alarming situation. This paper presents an overview of RTCs in the Eastern Province, KSA, from 2009 to 2016. Key descriptive statistics for spatial and temporal distribution of crashes are presented. Statistics from the present study suggest that the year 2012 witnessed the highest number of crashes, and that the region Al-Ahsa had a significantly higher proportion of total crashes. It was concluded that the fatality rate for the province was 25.6, and the mean accident to injury ratio was 8:4. IMPLEMENTING SPECIFIC INTERVENTIONS TO REDUCE ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

More than 1.2 million people die in RTAs and between 20 and 50 million people are injured in these accidents every year around the world. Road traffic accidents are a menace to both developed and developing nations, particularly to the latter. In Libya 50,000 people died because of road accidents from 1966 to 2009. For Libya, road accidents not only represent a social problem in Tripoli, but also indicate an economic problem that costs the country significant amount of money. On the average, traffic accidents in the country have led to the death of six people per day. Thus, Libya has become one of the most affected countries. This number is considered too large for a state whose population does not exceed six million people. This paper examines road accident problems in Tripoli, Libya. The methodologies adopted include desk research and primary data collection that covers accidents, as well as possible preventive measures that can be taken by operators of road transportation systems in Tripoli. The present status of the planning and evaluation of road safety, the causes of accidents and the general preventive measures are also considered. Recommendations on the procedures and interventions that must be implemented by the government to reduce the risk of traffic accidents are presented.
