Quality of agricultural extension on productivity of farmers: Human capital perspective
Uncertain Supply Chain Management, 2022
The relationship between agricultural extension and farmer productivity has been widely discussed; agricultural extension directly or indirectly affects farmer productivity. In this study, the researchers attempted to elaborate on this matter by looking at it from the rural wing based on the human resource and human capital theory. This study uses a quantitative explanatory approach. The analytical tool used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) as a fundamental data analysis using AMOS software. The population in this study were all agricultural extensions in South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi. The sample was taken using the accidental sampling technique; it included only the completed questionnaire in the data analysis. Until the time limit, only 122 agricultural extension people filled out the questionnaire and were declared complete. Research shows that rural extension has a significant positive effect on soft-skill competence and not substantial on farmer productivity. Furthermor...

Maize (Zea mays L.) is an important source of staple food in Kenya. Research innovations and physical inputs, and the capacity of farmers to use them are major ingredients for crop productivity enhancement. This study evaluated agricultural extension training and formal education as elements of farmers' capacity to use innovations and inputs. The study was conducted in a rural setup of North Rift in Kenya. Data were gathered by use of interview schedules through crosssectional survey from 502 households sampled purposively and by simple random sampling. Welch's t-test and Mann-Whitney U test were used to test for differences between means. 42.8% of the participants reported that they had not received agricultural extension training, 57.2% had. 65.2% had up to primary level education, 34.8% had secondary and above. Formal education up to primary was regarded as basic. Results indicated that fertilizer-use rates and maize yields differed significantly between groups 'who had received Extension training' and those who 'had not been trained'; t (482.785) =-9.228, P = .000 and t (496.513) =-7.095, P = .000, respectively. Regarding formal education, fertilizer-use rates and maize yields differed significantly between 'basic education' category and 'higher than basic'; t (332.28) =-5.699, P = .000 and t (290.29) =-5.438, P = .000 respectively. The alternative Mann-Whitney U test showed similar results. Effect sizes as measured by Eta-squared (ƞ 2) ranged from .06 (medium) to .1445 (large). It is concluded that Agricultural extension training had a highly significant influence on maize productivity. Formal education showed a positive impact on fertilizer-use adoption and maize productivity. This study
Determinants Factors of Agricultural Extension Services Performance and Impacts on Farmers' Behavior
American Journal of Agricultural and Biological Sciences, 2017
Agricultural extension plays an important role in improving the quality of human resources, also it function as a learning process for the main actors so that farmer will be able to help and organize themselves in accessing market information, technology, capital and other resources. Problem that arise among stakeholders have been widely debated. Since then, determinant factor of Agricultural Extension Services (BPP) performance should be identified and how it will impact on farmers behaviour. There is a strong assumption that, BPP performance will affect agricultural development, but it is very difficult to determine by factors. The research objectives were to analyze determinants of BPP performance and impact on farmers behaviour. This research was conducted in South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia by selecting 109 BPP based on Slovin Method. The analysis analized with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using LISREL software. The results showed that development of BPP; management BPP, human resources, assisted farmers, resource of BPP, adaptation of BPP are positively affect Action Program of BPP. In addition, these determinants affect farmers behaviour in terms of farmers competency and participation through indirectly action program. This leads to argue that in order to improve farmers behaviour (improving competency and participation), it is needed to step up performance of BPP (making action program properly, in other words) through extension program improvement, groups activity plan and operational cost management.

Performance Agricultural Extension in Aceh Besar District, Aceh Province, Indonesia
Siberian Journal of Life Sciences and Agriculture
This study’s objective is to ascertain how big the level of performance of agricultural instructors, and what are the factors that influence their performance. This research was conducted in Aceh Besar District. The number of samples is 28 people. The method used is descriptive qualitative method and multinomial logistic regression. The results showed that the level of performance of agricultural extension workers at a very perfect level was proven by several activities from the preparation of agricultural extension, extension workers who were in the medium category tended to be high in carrying out extension activities, evaluating and compiling reports on the results of extension activities. By using nine variables (x) in the simultaneous test, the value of the intercept only final variable sig value is 0.000, which means that the independent variable statistically significantly affects the dependent variable because the P-value <α(0.00 < 0.05). For the independent variables ...

Agricultural extension workers play an essential role in the productivity of agricultural systems. Based on the actual conditions in the field, it can be seen that the level of extension services still needs to be higher due to a lack of human resources in the field of extension services. This research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of agricultural extension services andthe factors that influence the effectiveness of agricultural extension to farmers in Baubau City, Indonesia. The analytical method includes exogenous latent variables: human resources, technological progress, farming capital, farmer age, education, and farming experience. The effectiveness of agricultural extension is used as an endogenous latent variable. The research sample consisted of 110 rice farmers in Baubau City, and the Slovin formula was used to calculate the sample. The data collection for this research was carried out by distributing questionnaires to respondents, in-depth interviews, and di...

Smallholder farmers are one of the most important stakeholders in Nigeria's agrarian economy. This study examined the effect of socioeconomic characteristic on maize farmers in Zing Local Government Area, Taraba State, Nigeria. This study adopted descriptive survey design and used primary and secondary data. Questionnaires were used to elicit information from the respondents. Five (5) wards were purposively selected out of ten (10) wards in the study area. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings of the study reveal that men are more involved in farming activities in the study area than women because of their ability to handle complex farming operations such as land preparation (clearing bushes and creating mounds and ridges). The study findings reveal that 33.73% of the respondents were in their prime age, between 20-30 years. As much as 63.86% of the respondents have small farm holdings between 3 to 5 hectares and 42.77% of the respondents acquire their farmlands through inheritance, 28.31% bought their farmlands, 19.28% rent their farmlands while 9.64% obtain their farmlands by lease. The study reveals that 34.64% of the respondent's income ranges between ₦10,000 to ₦20,000. This income is very low, thereby forcing the local people to take to other alternative sources of livelihood such as commercial cyclist riding, carpentry, welding and petty trading. In terms of labour, 43.97% of the respondents use family labour exclusively in their farming operation, 27.11% used hired labour, 21.69 used mechanical power in form of tractor and 7.23% use animal draught in their farming operations. The poor socioeconomic characteristics of the farmers contribute greatly to increasing decline in maize production in the study area which also translate to low income of the rural farmers. Based on the findings, the study recommended the need to assist the rural farmers to organize themselves into cooperatives and increase provision of up-to-date information and technology by extension workers to improve the skills of the rural farmers in modern agronomic practices.
