The scientific initiation (IC) can be defined as the development of a research project elaborated and carried out under the guidance of a teacher, executed with or without scholarship for students. At the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS), this evidence is present in higher education and technical courses. In view of these weightings, this study, through a master’s research clipping, analyzes the perceptions of high school teachers in vocational education (EMIEP) on the IC activities provided by the IFRS, the factors that determine (or not) their participation as mentors, the CI’s contributions to the high school student, as well as the main challenges and perspectives found in this process.
