An Implementation of Hybrid Approach for Sybil Attacks in Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (Vanets)

The Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is becoming increasingly important because of its high mobility and common link breakage architecture. There are several amusement services provided to all passengers via the VANET, and it is these services that ensure that the riding environment runs as smoothly as possible. Vehicle networks include a variety of routing protocols to help them communicate effectively, but these networks are vulnerable to a wide range of threats, including the introduction of rogue nodes. Many VANET systems face a serious security challenge today, as a misdirected conversation could result in catastrophic consequences for human lives, either immediately or in the future. In this Paper, the ns2 simulator can be used to construct the hybrid detection technique. P 2 DAP performs better than footprint as the number of large-capacity vehicles on the road rises. In contrast, when the number of cars increases, the footprint set of guidelines performs better. Encrypted facts, the authentication method and the car's trajectory can all be taken into consideration when creating a new Hybrid technique with set of rules.

MANET stands for Mobile Ad hoc Network. It is a robust infrastructure less wireless network. Malicious vehicles can degrade the network performance by triggering some security attack. VANET are self-configuring networks composed of a collection of vehicles and elements of roadside structure linked with each other without requiring any infrastructure, sending and receiving information of current traffic situation. These are used for the communication among the mobile vehicles. It has some security issues like attacks, authentication etc. In this work, a novel technique has been proposed to detect malicious vehicles and isolate Sybil attack from the network. This will help to improve network performance.

Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET) are useful in implementing a smart transportation system by enabling ad hoc vehicle to vehicle communication. Sybil attack is considered to be one of the most dangerous threats to VANET. The Vehicular Ad hoc Networks are a special type of ad hoc network, which along with lacking in infrastructure, contain communicating entities that move with different accelerations. Hence, this obstructs the establishment of more consistent end-to-end communicating pathways and efficiently transferring data. Therefore, the VANETs display many network concerns and show differing security challenges for obtaining a secure communication, ubiquitous connectivity, and reputed management systems that can affect the cooperation and the negotiation between the various mobile networks. This survey report studies some techniques reported by the researchers for the detection of the Sybil attack in the VANET systems. Vehicular communication intends to improve the traffic safety for decreasing number of accidents and manages traffic for saving money and time. In vehicular communication, vehicles communicate wirelessly and so security of this network against attackers should be considered. To become a real technology that has public safety on the roads, vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) needs appropriate security architecture. Secure architecture should protect it from different types of security attacks and preserve privacy for drivers. One of these attacks against ad-hoc networks is Sybil attack that attacker is creating multiple identities that are identities belonging to other vehicles or dummy identities made by the attacker. Attacker is using them to gain a disproportionately large influence in the network leading to accidents or causing delay in some services for the driver using only one physical device. In this paper we present a case study of different selective methods for Sybil attack detection in vehicular networks and discuss about advantages and disadvantages of them for real implementation.

Until recently vehicles and transportation systems were considered as the realm of mechanical engineers, but the need for the road safety and desire to be connected to the world, has broaden the industry scope. In order to do so Intelligent Transport System has been introduced and for few years, Vehicular Ad hoc Networks are getting much attention. The advance developments, wireless communication and life safety point towards to take into consideration the need of security in VANETs. In VANET, many attacks are possible and can cause serious damages to life. One such attack is Sybil attack. Sybil attacks have been regarded as a serious security threat to Ad hoc Networks and Sensor Networks. They may also damage the potential applications of Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) by creating a deception of traffic congestion. Here we look on how the Sybil attack works and possible ways that an attacker can cause harm by launching these types of attacks in VANETS, along with the detection schemes that can be used to identify Sybil nodes and prevent the network from various hurtful effects.

Vehicular Ad-hoc network is new and emerging technology. Researchers are gaining interest in this technology. Due to its open nature it is vulnerable to various attacks. Sybil attack is one of them. Various defense techniques have been given by researchers. In this work we briefly explain those defense techniques, given recently. We categorize these techniques as trusted certificates base, resource testing based and social network based. We give an overview of some defense schemes based on first two categories. We also give a summary of the techniques given in this paper, which is based on some parameters used in those techniques.
Detection of Sybil attack in vehicular ad hoc networks by analyzing network performance

Vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is an emerging technology which can be very helpful for providing safety and security as well as for intelligent transportation services. But due to wireless communication of vehicles and high mobility it has certain security issues which cost the safety and security of people on the road. One of the major security concerns is the Sybil attack in which the attacker creates dummy identities to gain high influence in the network that causes delay in some services and fake voting in the network to misguide others. The early detection of this attack can prevent people from being misguided by the attacker and save them from getting into any kind of trap. In this research paper, Sybil attack is detected by first applying the Poisson distribution algorithm to predict the traffic on the road and in the second approach, analysis of the network performance for packet delivery ratio (PDR) is performed in malign and benign environment. The simulation result shows that PDR decreases in presence of fake vehicles in the network. Our approach is simple and effective as it does not require high computational overhead and also does not violate the privacy issues of people in the network.
IRJET- An Efficient Detection and Prevention of Sybil Attack by using Different Parameters in VANET

A Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is recognized as a useful internet protocol and where the mobile nodes are self-configuring and self-organizing in character. The Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANETs) is a part of mobile Ad Hoc Network. Vehicular as Hoc Network security is crucial, since application reliability and thus safety must not be compromised. One of the most severe attacks in these networks is the Sybil attack, in which a malicious nodes forges many fake identities to fool safety applications. It can locate Sybil nodes using short detection packets without adding special hardware or information exchange. The proposed techniques is based on monitor mode and distance based techniques. The simulation is been performed in NS2. NS2 is an open-source simulation tool running on Unix-like operating systems. The results shows that purposed technique shows good results in terms of various parameter. Here some perimeters are packet loss, throughput and routing overhead. Extensive simulation results demonstrate the accuracy of our analysis.
Analysis of Sybil Attack Isolation Technique in VANET

The vehicular ad hoc network is the decentralized type of network in which vehicle nodes can join or leave the network when they want. The vehicular network is much vulnerable to security attacks which affect network performance. The active attacks are those which reduce network performance in terms of certain parameters. This paper is related to Sybil attack. The techniques which are proposed for the isolation of Sybil attack is reviewed and analyzed in this paper. The techniques are implemented in the network simulators and results are analyzed in terms of certain parameters.
