elsevier, 2018

With the aim of sustain in the present volatile market, the companies are looking for the alternate methods for designing and manufacturing. Web-based technologies have the potential to blend into the context of engineering design and manufacturing. This paper presents a preliminary approach for developing the web-based Knowledge-Based System for CAD modeling and 9manufacturing. The advanced CAD modeling techniques such as parametric modeling technique have been incorporated in the proposed system along with the macro codes for generation of the CAD model. The generated CAD model is the intermediate output of the proposed system and is the input to the CNC code generator to carry out the manufacturing processes. An inference engine and relevant web-UI are developed for assisting the design engineers. The intension behind the development of the system is to reduce the CAD modeling and manufacturing time and thereby reducing the production cost.

Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing 910 Technologies and Applications Proceedings of ISTA 2018 Online Knowledge-Based System for CAD Modeling and Manufacturing: An Approach

To hold and have their share in the present unpredictable market, the companies are heading toward the alternative techniques for designing and manufacturing. Web-based technologies have the capability to blend into the context of engineering design and manufacturing. This paper illustrates a preliminary approach for developing an online knowledge-based system for CAD modeling and manufacturing. The purpose of developing this system is to cut down the CAD modeling and manufacturing time and thereby reducing the production cost. The parametric modeling technique has been incorporated in the proposed system along with the macro codes for generation of the CAD model. The generated CAD model is the intermediate output of the proposed system and is the input to the CNC code generator to carry out the manufacturing processes. Development of an approach for Knowledge-Based System for CAD modelling

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2018

In the process of reducing the production cost and satisfying the customer and to sustain in the current volatile market, the manufacturing companies are looking for alternate processes and methods of designing and manufacturing. The conventional CAD/CAM tools are developed to meet the general needs of the market, but not the rapid or specific requirements of the market or customer. Consequently, the companies are looking to customize or tailor the CAD/CAM tools to improve their effectiveness. For this reason, the scope of research in the field of customization of designing tools has improved rapidly in the recent time. This paper discusses an introductory approach for developing an knowledge based system for CAD modelling using customization process of an CAD/CAM tool. The intension behind the development of the system is to reduce the production time and cost. The effectiveness of the proposed system has been examined using an industrial case study.

Using Contemporary 3D Web Technologies in the Process of CAD Model Design

Technics Technologies Education Management

During the last few decades, the approach to the new product design, planning, production and marketing has essentially changed. Variety of choices is increasing the effort for product placement on the market, threatens the company survival, and creates the risk of novel and unexplored. In this paper the new 3D web technology, which is used to exhibit and manipulate 3D models created by the support of professional CAD applications is presented. This principle is illustrated by the creation of a 3D web application for the modification of the product design. Site visitors – potential customers in the future – influence the shape and design of a new product by choosing the optimal solution for their needs. The process of realization of the 3D web application is described, starting with selection of the appropriate standard, via choosing the file format for the information sharing between professional 3D CAD applications, up to the methods for customer identification and personal inform...

WebMachining: Implementation of a Collaborative CAD/CAPP/CAM System for E-Manufacturing through the Internet

The 38th CIRP-International Seminar on …, 2005

This work presents a description of the implementation of the WebMachining methodology and system (http://WebMachining.AlvaresTech.com) developed in a context of e-Mfg, aiming at integrating CAD/CAPP/CAM for the remote manufacturing of cylindrical parts through the Internet. The methodology and its implementation are conceived starting from the modelling paradigm based on synthesis by design features, in order to allow the integration of the activities of collaborative design (WebCADbyFeatures), generative process planning (WebCAPP) and production (WebTurning). The system is implemented in a distributed environment of agents (agents' community), whose architecture is stratified in three levels: design, Process Planning and Production; being adopted Knowledge Query and Manipulation Language (KQML) as the language pattern of messages among the design, process planning and production agents.

A Web-Based Solution Supporting CAD Assembly Model Exploration and Analysis

SN Computer Science, 2021

In the last decades, digital 3D models have substituted 2D technical drawings for the design and development of mechanical products. This results in a huge amount of CAD (computer-aided design) models available in legacy and Web repositories. 3D CAD models are now the reference product specification, and are frequently exchanged with customers and companies collaborating in the product development. In addition, this great amount of data can be exploited by scientists to test and evaluate their research results. Therefore, the visualization and analysis of CAD models from everywhere and through any device are particularly useful for both engineers and researchers. To answer this need, this paper presents a web-based solution exploiting the X3D capabilities for the direct visualization in the Web browser of CAD assemblies and of some of their characteristics remotely computed by the application on user demand.

Design Process Automation Support through Knowledge Base Engineering

2013

This paper shows the methodology of developing an application of Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) to automate the task of repetitive designs, while reusing and modifying the existing designs in a Computer Aided Design (CAD) environment. The presented work describes the procedure for developing KBE tools for standard parametric mechanical /engineering parts and assemblies. With the proposed methodology and the developed KBE tool, it is possible to achieve direct interaction between the user and the geometric model so as to simplify the design process so as to avoid redesign and remodeling of the product. The proposed methodology was implemented through Knowledge Fusion (KF), a Siemens NX module.

Cad/Cam System for Virtual Machining, Machine Tool Mock-Up and Knowledge Base Machining

This application with ESPRIT software has been developed in the work shop of the mechanical department of INSA-Lyon. Because of the usual use in education and in industries of many CAD software systems such as Catia, Pro Eng, IDEAS etc., was decided 3 years ago to implement a powerful CAM software system completely independent of these. The objectives were: friendly data communication with CAM system; to increase the development of applications in the production and manufacturing fields; to develop formation and training for education and industries with the help of information and communication technologies. This paper rapidly presents the implementation and the actual exploitation. In paragraph 1, ESPRIT software and the used functions are presented. The CAM formation of the INSA mechanical engineers is detailed in paragraph 2. The paragraph 3 presents the future developments. The KBM (Knowledge Based Manufacturing) function is described so as his use for the process planning. To conclude, the benefits expected for education and industry with virtual machining and e-manufacturing are highlighted.
