The main purpose of teaching English is students able to active or passive communicate in English well. This research was experiments research with using a quantitative approach. This research focus on use storytelling techniques on speaking ability, to determine whether storytelling techniques give a significant effect towards students' speaking ability, and to determine components of speaking skill that improved by implementation of storytelling technique on students’ speaking abilities such as vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, fluency, and understanding. This research aims to examine if storytelling effectively increases their speaking skills and also to examine if there is any significant difference in the mean score of speaking tests who are taught with storytelling and just by doing the ordinary treatment. The researcher decided on this subject which has students that are interested in English but they don't have the right way to improve their english speaking skills. Here the researcher used a quasi-experimental research design that focused on the effect of using the storytelling method to increase their speaking skills. By doing steps of the research that consisted of pre-test, treatments, and post-test, the researcher will find their score. To find out whether there is a significant effect of using the storytelling method, the researcher will analyze the t-test. The results of this research showed that (1) Storytelling gives many advantages to teachers such as; training students to be imaginative, developing students' speaking ability, and also giving them moral value from the story. (2) This method is very appropriate because from this research can conclude that there is a significant effect of storytelling to increasing students speaking skills as evidenced by the increase of their scores from pre-test to their post-test after being given the storytelling method. (3) Students' response to participating in learning is very good because this method really attracts their attention, proven to be able to absorb and master their material subject by doing their tasks. (4) Teachers can apply the right methods to enhance students' mastery of the subject. And the last one is the output of this teaching method can increase students' speaking skills to increase the school's capability in conducting English classes efficiently. The researcher concluded that storytelling effectively increases students' speaking skills.
The Effect of Storytelling Technique in Improving Students Speaking Ability at SMAN 1 Sidamanik

This research seeks to determine how the narrative method affects the speaking ability of SMAN 1 SIDAMANIK second-graders. This pre-experimental investigation with a population of thirty students selected groups using random cluster sampling. Before and after therapy, a narrative technique was used to collect data. Before and after the test, students receive instruction. The average score on the pre-test was 48.68, while the average score on the post-test was 54.97. Between the pre-test and post-test, the data indicate an increase. The research shows that the t-test is preferable to the t-table (4,827 > 2,04). The significant difference between the post-test and the pre-test suggests that the narrative method affects students' speaking ability. This demonstrates how a narrative approach can help students develop their public speaking abilities. The aims of the of this study is to find empirical evidence that storytelling technique can enhance students’ speaking ability at tenth grade of MA Bidayatul Hidayah. The total sample was 40 students. The method used of the research was quasi-experimental. The researcher chose the method because she wanted to know the effectiveness of storytelling technique in enhancing student’s speaking skill. The method used was quantitative. It means the method and instrument involved numerical measurement and then statistical quantification. the students’ speaking skill in experimental class that were given by the treatment through storytelling were improved more effectively than the control group. The conclusion storytelling is effective to be applied in teaching speaking skill. It can develop confidence, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension. Improving Students’ Speaking Achievement by Using Storytelling Technique

This study was aimed to improve the students’ speaking achievement by using storytelling technique. The subject of the study was the eight grade students of Public Junior High School 22 Medan in academic year 2018/2019. This study was conducted by applying Classrom Action Research (CAR), which had been conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of three meetings. The instruments of collecting data were quantitative data (speaking test) and qualitative data (observation checklist and field notes). The result of the test shows that the mean score of pre test is 40, formative test is 46.34, and post test is 62.89. The percentage of the students’ means score improve from pre test to post test 57.2%. The aim of this study was to improving the students' speaking skills by using storytelling technique at the eleventh grade student of SMA Tut Wuri Handayani Makassar that consist of 2 students. This research was classroom action research which was implemented in two cycle such as cycle 1 and cycle 2. On each cycle, there were four meetings consist of planning, action, observation and reflecting. The collecting data method used quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative is the main data while qualitative is supporting data. Quantitative data consisted of speaking tests while qualitative data consisted of observation checklist, interviews, field notes, and documentation. The result showed that the using of storytelling technique can improve the students' speaking skill. This could be proven through the average score of students in class XI. In cycle 1 was 72,76% while in cycle 2 was 82,36%. The result of percentage of completeness criteria also increased. In cycle 1, there were 14 students (56%)while in cycle 2 there were 25 students (100%). It showed that the use of storytelling technique could improve the students' speaking skills.
Improving Students’ Speaking Skills by Using Storytelling

This study aims to describe the improvement of speaking skills using the story telling method in X MIPA-1 SMAS Yayasan Pendidikan Pangeran Antasari. The research method used is qualitative. Two sessions were held to perform this research. The initial study’s findings revealed that during the first meeting, 50% of the participants dared to speak English in front of the class and 60% were able to do so. At the second meeting, 80% of the students were willing to speak in front of the class and could speak English to 90% level. From the data obtained, it can be concluded that there was an increase in speaking ability for X MIPA-1 SMAS Yayasan Pendidikan Pangeran Antasari. Key words: Story Telling, Teaching Speaking Skills

This action research study was aimed at improving the students’ speaking skills in Grade VIII of SMP Islam Terpadu Salman Al Farisi Yogyakarta in the 2016/2017 academic year through storytelling activity. This action research study was conducted in two cycles. The first cycle consisted of four meetings while the second cycle consisted of three meetings. The actions conducted in the research used storytelling activity which was supported by several actions: (1) using classroom English during the teaching and learning process, (2) engaging the students in pre-communicative activities, (3) encouraging them to use dictionaries, (4) setting a fun learning atmosphere, and (5) appreciating their participation and achievement. The data were qualitative and quantitative in nature. The qualitative data during the research process were collected by observing the teaching and learning process, having interviews with the students and collaborators, distributing questionnaires to the students, recording their speaking, asking them to make written reflections, and taking photographs. The instruments used to collect those data were observation checklist, interview guidelines, and questionnaire sheets. Data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing and verification were used to analyze the qualitative data. Meanwhile, the quantitative data were got by assessing the students’ speaking performance using an assessment rubric. The research results show that the students’ speaking skills improved through involving them in storytelling activity. In addition, the results of the assessment show that the students reached some improvements at different rates. In the pre-test, the lowest quantitative improvement score was 6, while the highest was 13,5. In the post-test, the lowest quantitative improvement score reached 10,5, while the highest was 19,5. Those improvements were mainly on their speaking fluency, interactive skill, and vocabulary mastery. The pair work and group work technique used in conducting the activities supported their speaking skills improvement since it encouraged them to speak up one another. As a result, their speaking skills improved.
