Is There a Gender Pay Gap in Business Schools? (original) (raw)
Abstract
We collected salary information on male and female business school faculty from 13 institutions of higher learning, from six teaching fields, across five states via collegiatetimes.com, a public salary database. An analysis of variance, with a 2 x 4 x 6 factorial design, is used to test for main effects and interaction effects when gender, rank and teaching fields are the factors and salary is the response variable. Although women earn less than men in academics in general, among business school faculty the salary differences are non-significant after allowing for ranks and teaching fields. The interaction between rank and teaching field is found to be moderately significant. Therefore, today's female business faculty might not be subjected to the pay disparities reported in many other studies.
