Being black but not Black? Diasporic identities in France, across the Atlantic, and across the Mediterranean (original) (raw)

This research engages with the concept of the Black Mediterranean to examine the politics of Blackness in France, particularly in relation to its colonial history and the contemporary issues surrounding racism and identity. It explores the resistance to Black Studies in French academia and highlights the activism from groups in Paris that challenge dominant narratives about race and colonial legacies. Through fieldwork in marginalized communities, the paper argues for the relevance of Black Geographies in understanding the social dynamics of France and the ongoing impact of its colonial past.
