Athiyyah Mini Project Sociolinguistic (original) (raw)
Language is a common tool used to interact can be in the form of thoughts, ideas, concepts, or feelings. In addition, in the study of sociolinguistics, language is defined as a system symbol, in the form of sound, arbitrary, productive, dynamic, diverse, and human. In recent years, information technologies, particularly social media, have had an impact on the lives of every country, especially Indonesia, and the educational community in particular. Applications like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and WhatsApp have significantly increased social interaction and information sharing among student and teacher communities. This research is made to find out the use of language in social media by Indonesian’s student. The researchers used a qualitative descriptive study in which the data obtained was in the form of words and then processed and then presented in the form of a description. Finding shows that students' language on social media includes non-formal language, sarcasm, slang, or harsh language with abbreviations. Because there are no boundaries for communicating on social media, communication norms are frequently ignored and people offend each other. As a result, communication ethics is critical to understand and apply in order to avoid offense in social situations. Etiquette or politeness norms in communication are examples of communication ethics. It is critical to control politeness in social media in this all-digital era of globalization.
