Content Analysis on the English Textbook Entitled Bahasa Inggris Sma/Ma Kelas X

This research was accomplished to find out whether Bahasa Inggris textbook for Grade X fulfilled each criterion of textbook evaluation criteria based on Jahangard’s theory. The researcher used the qualitative analysis design. The data source was collected from Bahasa Inggris textbook for Grade X published by Pusat Kurikulum dan Perbukuan, Balitbang, Kemendikbud. The instrument of this study was a table of textbook evaluation criteria. The researcher collected the data by using checklist to evaluate the textbook and analyze the data shown by the checklist and make some interpretations, and finally describing the results from the assessment table. The result confirmed that only five of fourteen sub-criteria which did not be fulfilled, they are vocabulary section consists of list of words and their definition, each chapter should consist of four skills, there is a grammar presentation in each chapter and the words are correctly spelled. The textbook is an essential component that supports the educational process. EFL tutors can find a suitable and appropriate textbook in the educational process by analyzing the textbook. This research is intended to discover whether the materials in the English textbook implemented in SMA Negeri 1 Banjarmasin fulfil the good textbook criterion based on rubric assessment from Cunningsworth. This research applied a mixed method. The object of this research was an 11th grade EFL pupils textbook entitled “Bahasa Inggris." The writer implemented herself, rubric assessment of textbook analysis that has adapted, and documentation as the instrument. In analyzing the data, the writer applied descriptive elucidation and interpreted it into a numerical percentage form. This paper aimed to find out the degrees of linguistic supports, content based and affective supports, skill supports, and diversity and flexibility of speaking materials in ‘Bahasa Inggris’ used by the twelfth grade of senior high school. This was a descriptive research type with content analysis. The English textbook “Bahasa Inggris” published by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture was the data. Theory of Dat Bao was used to analyze the data. Based on the analysis, the result of linguistic support shows 82 % which means “Good”. The result of content-based and affective support shows 87 % which means “fair”. The result of skill support shows 87 % which means “Good”. Analysis of Speaking Materials in English Textbook for 10Th Grade of Senior High School Students

Although many studies showed that current English textbooks were suitable to be used for speaking materials in the classroom, they need to be evaluated for some reasons. This study aimed at finding out whether the speaking materials in the met the criteria of good speaking materials as proposed by National Education Standard Board. Documentary analysis in the form of qualitative descriptive research were used to collect data. The result showed that the words, speaking materials and activities in the Bahasa Inggris the curriculum 2013 and therefore, deserves to be used in the classroom.

This study had purposes to investigate the English textbook "When English Rings a Bell" for the eighth grade students for Junior High School based on Brian Tomlinson's (2011) principles. This study was expected to the teachers to identify and choose the English textbooks that appropriate learning materials to be used in the classroom based on Tomlinson's (2011) principles before they use the book as the source for teaching materials in the classroom. Then, for the other researchers can do the next study and evaluation of the students' book to fulfill a good textbook. Furthermore, this study is expected to give some knowledge about appropriate learning materials to be used in teaching and learning process in the classroom. The type of this study was pre use evaluation because it is prepared to be used in teaching and learning process in the classroom. The design of this study was content analysis. Document analysis method and interview the teachers were applied to collect the data from the English textbook "When English Rings a Bell" for the eighth grade students. The participant in this study was teacher who uses the English textbook "When English Rings a Bell" for eighth grade students. The data were taken based on the syllabus in this semester and mostly the structures in the textbook are homogeny. The structures in the textbook are observing, questioning, collecting information, associating and communicating. Those structures based on scientific approach in 2013 curriculum. The data were analyzed qualitatively by employing Tomlinson's (2011) principles. An Analysis of Reading Materials in “Bahasa Inggris” Textbook for Vocational High School Students

The purpose of this research is to describe the relevance of reading materials in the “Bahasa Inggris” textbook for Vocational High School students in the XI grade, as well as the good textbook criteria proposed by Pusat Perbukuan, the Ministry of National Education, in terms of content, presentation, language use, and readability. The research used a descriptive qualitative study with a content analysis design. The instruments used to collect the data were a document study and observation in the form of checklists. The results demonstrated that the textbook "Bahasa Inggris" fulfilled the Pusat Perbukuan's recommendations for good learning materials. Because the average fulfillment score is 82.1 percent, the textbook is rated a "good" textbook. The textbook appeared adequate for use in the teaching-learning process, but it could be improved. Coursebooks are core parts of any curriculum as the unique contributors to content learning (Demir & Ertas, 2014). Currently, in Indonesian curriculum, K13, the government develops coursebooks that can be used by students nationally. The developed coursebooks, Buku Sekolah Elektronik (BSE), vary for different level of education, starting from elementary schools up to senior and vocational high schools. In developing the coursebooks, the government needs to implement the coursebooks to the real life situation and also evaluate them. In this paper, the researchers try to evaluate a coursebook used in English class for Junior High School students grade VII. The evaluation is done through two ways, the theory-based analysis and checklist-based analysis.
