Sociolinguistic space in speech acts (original) (raw)

2016

Abstract

The notion of sociolinguistic space is discussed, on a theoretical level as well as on an empirical one. It is conceived as a non-dual concept, and it intends to refer to the simultaneous social and linguistic dimensions of the language acts of each actor. Its use allows the sociolinguist to reconsider the sameness or difference of identities and languages expressed in discourse. The contribution is set upon research on multilingualism, mainly in Senegal.
