Abstract
This work proposes the performance of a 4-switch 3-phase inverter fed, cost-effective induction motor drive. The cost of inverter, switching losses and complexity due to interface circuits to generate 6 PWM logic signals reduces. The gating pulse technique here is adaptive-carrier based PWM which can be effectively used to pulse the 4-switch 3-phase inverter. Using this technique calculation time can be reduced and linear-modulation in over-modulation region can be achieved. The performance analysis of the proposed 4-switch 3-phase inverter topology fed induction motor drive is made in terms of THD in stator current and the speed response. This proposed method to fed induction motor drive using 4-switch 3-phase inverter is found acceptable while considering its cost reduction and other advantageous features.
