Perception of the Nurse's Profession among Students of the University of Split

The results of this study show that the Croatian version of the revised questionnaire with 16 statements about the Perception about the image of the nursing profession has acceptable measurement properties. The analysis of internal consistency on the entire questionnaire (Cronbach's α=0.85) showed that the selected statements are suitable for determining the overall level of perception of the nursing profession. Attitudes toward the nursing profession differed significantly among the 5 faculties (P<0.001). Students from School of Medicine had the most positive attitudes toward the nursing profession (X=0.28; SD=0.61), followed by University Department of Health Studies students (X=0.18; SD=0.97), whereas Catholic Faculty of Theology students had negative attitudes toward the nursing profession (X=-0.98; SD=1.42). Conclusion: Nurses should promote their profession, especially towards young people who are on the verge of choosing their professional career.

Student Nurses' Perception about Nursing Profession: A Comparative Approach

Background: Perception is a belief or opinion of people to interpret things. Perception plays a key role in molding the shape of an individual as a person and as a professional. As perception affects the working capacity of nurses, it is imperative to know about the current trends of perceived image of profession among future professionals. Methods: A quantitative comparative study was conducted involving 200 student nurses in order to assess and compare the perceived image of the nursing profession among freshers (B.Sc. nursing first year students) and outgoing batches (B.Sc. Nursing final year students), using convenient sampling technique. The study was conducted in both selected public and private institutions located within the Faridkot district of Punjab state. A five-point self-structured Likert scale was used to collect data from study subjects. Data was collected using the online mode via Google forms after written informed consent from participants. Results: Perceived image of nursing profession was significantly more positive (p= 0.026) among freshers when compared with final year students. A highly significant association (p=0.000) was found in the perceived image of the nursing profession with the type of institution. Student nurses from private institutions had significantly higher positive perception about the profession. Most of the final year students felt that nurses don't get due respect in the society. Conclusion: It is concluded that first year nursing students were more positive and enthusiastic about the nursing profession as compared to the outgoing batches. Students from government institutions had a drastically less favorable perceived image of the nursing profession in comparison to those studying in private institutions.

Assess the attitude and perception of secondary high school and junior college students towards nursing profession from Uttan community

Background of the study: Nursing, a profession that recalls the name of Florence Nightingale is indeed one of the noblest professions in the world. Nursing education is becoming more demanding each day. Future nurses have to consider theoretical, practical, ethical and legal aspects of their careers especially in the area of rights of the patients. The poor knowledge and attitude towards nursing as a profession has made nursing a low profile course, and hinders its advancement even more. The public's attitudes towards nursing appear to depend upon the degree of knowledge and economic power nurses receive. To attract more individuals to the profession, a positive image of nursing needs to be engendered by nurse education and the general community. To improve nurse's social image is to intervene in the social image of nursing that exists in the general public and among professionals 4. Aim of the study: The present study was conducted to assess the attitude and perception of secondary high school and junior college students towards nursing profession from Uttan community. Methods: A descriptive study with survey design was selected to assess the attitude and perception of secondary high school and junior college students towards nursing profession at selected school. A total number 104 subjects were selected by using non probability purposive sampling. The checklist was prepared to assess the attitude and perception regarding nursing nursing profession and 5 point likert scale was used to assess the attitude and perception. Results: Majority of the students 76 (73.07%) had moderately favorable attitude and 28 (26.93%) subjects had favorable attitude and none of the student had unfavorable attitude towards nursing profession. Regarding attitude revealed that, majority 49.03% agreed that they enjoy to care and to be with the people in need. The majority of 53.84% students believed that nursing is challenging procedure and 54.80% of students believed that they can be found nursing jobs wherever they go. Majority of 33.65% of the students disagree that the nursing profession is for females only. Regarding the perception revealed that majority 47.11% agreed that nursing is a technical occupation. While majority 59.61% agreed that the nurses earns good salary, majority of 57.69% also agreed that nurses have a lot of people to take care of, majority of 51.92% agreed that it takes intelligence to be a nurse. Majority 46.15% agreed that nursing is interesting, challenging and offers variety. Majority of 50.96% agreed that nursing is primarily for women.

Assessment of the perception of students towards Nursing profession in selected Colleges

"Life is what our perception is" Nursing is a noble profession and career of day and night service to the public. Today, the conceptualization by students of nursing profession appears uncertain and the question asked by many students is "what is nursing". The present study aimed to assess the perception of students towards nursing profession and to determine the association of the knowledge with selected demographic variables. The research approach was non-experimental with Descriptive Survey Design in selected college of Adesh university, Bathinda, Punjab. The final data was collected after getting formal permission from Principal's of College of Nursing, Medical, Dental and Physiotherapy. Convenience sampling was Technique was used for collecting final data. The data was collected from 200 students 50 from each college of final year batch students by likert scale having 20 statements. Major Findings of the Study revealed that Most of the students (70%) were in age group of 18-21 years. Majority of the subjects (80%) were females and (51.5%) were living in urban place. Majority of the subjects (96%) were unmarried. Majority of subject's parents (30%) were having senior secondary education. Findings of present study showed that 78% of Nursing students were having favourable perception towards their profession followed by 25% of Medical and 28% of Dental and 15% of Physiotherapy. However 35% of Physiotherapy students were having Moderately favourable perception followed by 20% and 22% in Dental and Medical students respectively and only 1% Nursing students perceive unfavourable perception towards nursing profession. .Computed chi square values of level of perception of students towards nursing profession with demographic variables were found to be statistically non significant as 0.05 level of significance, so there is no significant association of the level of perception of students towards nursing profession with demographic variables

Perceptions of First and Last Year Nursing Bachelor Students About Their Own Profession: A Qualitative Study

Background & Aims: Nursing has considerable progresses towards becoming professional in recent decades in comparison with previous decades. It seems that researches on nursing students perceptions about nursing profession at first and at the end of their education in our country(Iran) ins't enough. So this study was conducted with the aim of describing the nature of first and last year nursing bachelor students about their own profession. Materials & Methods: This study is a qualitative one, and the participants of this study were 20 nursing students who were in the first and last year of their education in bachelor degree. Sampling method was purposeful. The data were collected and analyzed (content analysis) simultaneously. After explaining the aim of research to the participants, and taking written consent and keeping the record of interviews, unstructured interview was used to gather the data. Results: In the current study, conceptual domains of bachelor's degree students about this profession included: "The nature of nursing (knowledge/ job)", "The profession's social status" and "Actually/delivering nursing (nursing administering)". The student were fully aware and close to nursing reality in their last year. Another classification as "effective (positive /negative) factors on nursing student's perceptions about their own profession" were recognized as well. Conclusion: According to findings of this study, it seems that some interventions must be conducted in order to assess and inform students about their profession in three dimensions of profession concerning factors which are affecting their perceptions.

Change in students' perception of profession during nursing education in Turkey: A longitudinal study

Background: Progress in the nursing is only possible with nursing students who graduate with sufficient information and comprehension about their professions. Background and Aim: Nurses are key to the health of the nation. Nursing can be described as both an art and a science; a heart and a mind. The aim of this study is to evidence the students' perceptions about the profession of nursing. This is a cross-sectional study. Education Makes a Difference in Nursing : Perceptions of Medical Vocational High School Students about the Nursing Profession

Objective: This study was carried out to determine the view points of the students of medical vocational high school in cross –sectional way. Material and Method: The universe of study carried out in cross-sectional way is medical vocational high schools located in the centrum of Şanlıurfa. The sample of study consists of 232 students taking education in the nursing department of this high school and accepting to participate in the study.
