The Language on the Internet, an Ancient Know-How Digitalized
American Journal of Applied Psychology
The digital paradigm to which these new technologies (NTIC) belong is at the origin of particular linguistic practices. Internet is an innovator in this field. Indeed, its users want their written communications to be as fast as during oral exchanges; they will choose their knowledge to write on a saving in expressive type. Also wishing to transmit feelings and emotions, they will call upon an iconography, which uses the diacritics as material serving creation of logograms. This redundancy of a diverted punctuation of its original use, but being used "to punctuate" the speech by figurines translating the emotional state of the speaker, is a characteristic of this numerical space. Through the analysis of the corpus taken on the Internet and put in comparison with the hieroglyphic system introduced by Champollion Le Jeune [5] and the graphic evolution of some ideograms, it will be shown that it is always about the same used model, in which a key always initiates a semantic field, and that this process orders a reorganization of the objects of the world through a new scriptural writing.
That the Internet invokes profound opportunities for language educators and students has been long discussed (with some of the better examples published in this very journal). In his 2001 book, Language and the Internet, David Crystal only sporadically mentions educational issues or contexts, but this does not diminish the importance or relevance of this book for applied linguists. Crystal, a prolific linguist who has authored numerous scholarly and reference texts on a variety of language related topics, turns his attention in this volume to the language practices visibly mediated by the Internet. In a personal preface to the volume, he mentions that as a prominent linguist, he has often been asked about what effect the Internet has had on language, a question for which he did not have a clear answer. This prompted him to explore a variety of what he terms "Internet situations," each of which comes to form a chapter in this 272-page volume.
Computer Terminology as a Type of Innovation in English Discourse
Nova fìlologìâ
The appearance of a large number of English-language innovations, which arose due to the development of the field of computer technologies and its implementation in various spheres of life and activity of representatives of the English-speaking world, caused the formation of a new subsystem of the English language ‒ metaterminological systems of the field of computer technologies. The defined meta-terminological system is an artificial, abstract, syncretic, ideal formation, the theoretical and methodological relevance of its separation is dictated by the research goal of the need to solve the problem of representing integral fragments of human existence and reality and its verbal embodiment. The analyzed subsystem is a complex, multi-level macrostructure that represents qualitatively new modes of human existence and reality, mediated by the existence of the computer and Internet communication. The complex, multidimensional nature and structural organization of the meta-terminologica...
