Considered as a type of tourism with low environmental impact, ecotourism is done by small groups with the possibility of economic support, both for the conservation units (UCs) where it can be practiced, and for the local human communities in terms of income generation. This article aims to elaborate a proposal for the implementation of Ecotourism in the Pantanal Farm Private Natural Heritage Reserve, based on principles of environmental sustainability, in the municipality of Codó-MA. The methodology used was documentary, bibliographic and mainly field research, which was developed through interviews with semi-structured questions, with reports of experiences and photographic records. The result of the research points to a more precise and detailed environmental diagnosis, which will aim to identify the physical, biotic and anthropic factors of the region under study, as well as the interactions that they establish among themselves through which the dynamics of ecosystems are apprehended. The diagnosis should characterize the potentialities and vulnerabilities of the area, in face of the foreseen transformative activities. Thus, it is concluded that the practice of ecotourism only becomes viable if an adequate planning and management model is adopted with the participation of all, whether the owners, tourists, communities and local population, respecting the attributions of each one and promoting activities of employment and income generation based on principles of sustainability.
