Journal of Sport Management, 2008

The article proposes a conceptual model of quality in event sport tourism wherein perceived quality of sport tourism (Sport Tourism Quality) is said to influence tourist satisfaction which, in turn, influences the tourist’s intention to return to the place of the event and/or the event itself. Sport Tourism Quality is indicated by four primary dimensions each of which is defined by two or more subdimensions. The primary dimensions are (a) access quality (composed of access to destination, sport venue, hotel), (b) accommodation quality (including the environment, interactions, and value), (c) venue quality (comprised of environment, interactions, and value), and (d) contest quality (indicated by process of the contest and the product of the contest). The proposed multidimensional model of sport tourism quality would facilitate research into the dynamics of sport tourism and offer guidelines for practitioners as they constantly strive to provide the very best experience for sport tour...

Sport tourists' preferred event attributes and motives: A case of sepak takraw, Malaysia

Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, 2021

Providing a multidimensional measurement model for assessing quality of sport tourism services: Empirical evidence from sport conference as sport event tourism

2015

This study aimed to empirically develop a reliable and valid model specifically for measuring service quality of sport conferences as sport event tourism. To assess the model which has been established based on the survey, data gathered from 136 of attendees in sport conference. Finding of this study showed that participants form their service quality perceptions based on their evaluations of 4 primary dimensions including: venue quality, conference quality, access quality and trip quality. Total variance of these dimensions explained %53.82 variance of services quality. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that each of the four factors influence on the services quality, and the fit indices confirmed the conceptual model that presented in this study (Chi-Square=85.456, df=23, P=0.001, RMSEA=0.142). As a result, it is recommended to conference organizer and tourism managers, to considering these factors next to each other in order to increase and improve the service quality.

Investigating the satisfaction of active event sport tourists

European Journal of Tourism Research

Active event sport tourists (AESTs) are those tourists who are taking part in organised events as competitors. Each event is held in a particular destination and, as a part of a highly competitive industry, both events and destinations offer an ever-widening range of services, striving to make their visitors satisfied. In order to better understand, conceptualize and manage the AESTs’ satisfaction, the primary research based on a questionnaire survey was conducted on 16 small-scale sports events, collecting 502 responses. Results indicate that six satisfaction categories emerged: four event-related dimensions (staff and communication, event reputation, safety, and facilities and key processes) and two destination-related dimensions (destination offering and destination attributes). Understanding the role of the satisfaction of AESTs in a small-scale sport event creates both scientific and practical contributions, where sport event management and marketing need to consider each of th...

Spectator Perceptions of Physical Facility and Team Quality: A Study of a Malaysian Super League Soccer Match

The purpose of this study is to explore the potential of a small-scale sport event as tourist attraction in Malaysia using Leiper's (1990) tourist attraction system as framework. This paper reports the results of a study conducted on a small scale event sport tourism in Lake Kenyir Malaysia. Data for this study were collected quantitatively from 400 subjects using the Leisure Motivation Scale developed by Ragheb and Beard (1983). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and logistic regression. Visitors to sport event at Lake Kenyir fall into three categories: (1) sport excursionist, (2) active sport tourist and (3) passive sport tourists and the majority of the respondents (81.75%) were sport tourists. The results indicate factors such as competence mastery and intellectual factors are significant variables which motivate people to seek active sport-oriented vacations. On the other hand, passive sport tourists are motivated by social factors and the need to escape from over stimulating situations. The results were discussed in light of earlier findings concerning sport tourist motivations and preferred destination attributes. The potential and benefits of small scale sport events as tourist attraction in Malaysia were also discussed in this paper as well as suggestions for the local tourism authority.

Sports service quality for event venues: evidence from Malaysia

Sport, Business and Management: An International Journal, 2014

Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to empirically test the proposed measure of sports service quality (SSQ) and examine the relationships between emotional experience (EE) and user satisfaction (US) for sports competitions/training venues (i.e. for the sport of badminton). Design/methodology/approach -Focus group discussions and related literature review were used to generate items for the SSQ. Structured questionnaires captured the perceptions of 240 users of sports venues in Malaysia. The relationships between SSQ, EE and US were assessed via structural equation modelling (SEM). Findings -Results show that the SSQ has five dimensions (peripheral, reliability, responsiveness, core and value). Core, peripheral and value have positive effects on users' EE whereas peripheral, reliability, responsiveness and core have positive effects on US. The SEM analysis suggests that EE mediates the relationship between SSQ and US.
