Final devoicing and voicing assimilation in Dutch derivation and cliticization (original) (raw)
This paper explores final devoicing and voicing assimilation in Dutch through a unified analysis employing the Correspondence version of Optimality Theory. It critiques traditional rule-based frameworks for their inability to cohesively address all relevant phenomena. By examining the prosodic structure of suffixes and clitics, the authors demonstrate that clitics interact differently with final devoicing and voicing assimilation compared to standard suffixes, relying on alignment and identity constraints.
