Konya, the ancient capital city of the Seljuk State of Turkey, is also the capital of Seljuk architecture with its monumental works. Adorned with structures such as mosques, masjids, madrasas, caravanserais, and tombs; the city had been the starting point of the artistic and architectural process that influenced other Seljuk cities in Anatolia while creating the Seljuk classical style. The city, which also experienced political peaks and turmoil, made good use of the long period it spent in the Turkish-Islamic fabric; it experienced an architectural breakthrough, the effects of which continued until the era of Ottoman classical architecture. Undoubtedly, the most important works of this period were mosques. Even though the majority of the mosques built by the Seljuks in Konya, they have not survived to the present day, or their purpose of use have changed, the buildings which preserve their originality have formed successful examples of the Seljuk classical era with their plan schemes, minarets, mihrabs with tile mosaic technique altars and wooden pulpits. Masjids, on the other hand, are the small works where the Seljuk tradition is most evident. Masjids are the origin of post-Seljuk Anatolian masjids with their single domes, sometimes built with a brick minaret and tiled mihrabs.
