This study draws on literature on argumentation and critical thinking. Its main goal is to analyse teenagers’ critical thinking to manage scientific information in social networks. We analysed 95 ninth graders’ quality of argumentation on their degree of agreement and their degree of credibility of a fake news item. The design included a dependent variable (argumentative competence), two independent variables (degree of agreement, degree of credibility) and a covariate (reading comprehension). A significant correlation was found between the degree of agreement and the degree of credibility. In addition, the degree of credibility decreases significantly as reading comprehension increases. Students who positioned themselves against the claim of the fake news and those who did not believe it showed higher argumentative quality in their texts than those who both agreed with and believed it. Understanding the Spread of Fake News: An Approach from the Perspective of Young People

The COVID-19 pandemic and the boom of fake news cluttering the internet have revealed the power of social media today. However, young people are not yet aware of their role in the digital age, even though they are the main users of social media. As a result, the belief that older adults are responsible for information is being re-evaluated. In light of this, the present study was aimed at identifying the factors associated with the spread of fake news among young people in Medellín (Colombia). A total of 404 self-administered questionnaires were processed in a sample of people between the ages of 18 and 34 and analyzed using statistical techniques, such as exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. This research observe the Indonesia presidential election 2019 focused on massive hoax and fake news on social media. These phenomena are giving such effects for society because it leads emergence chaos. The objective of this research identified fake news and described language misuse on Indonesia presidential election 2019 to reduce emergence chaos in society. Readers who have good competence will be able to distinguish between factual reports and opinion pieces that tend to be subjective. On the other hand, incompetent readers will be easily provoked by fictitious issues that tend to be provocative. Method of the research used descriptive qualitative on referential and phenomenology approaches. Data collected using scrutinized (simak) method. The data got from www.turnbackhoax.id website. This website is used as a data source because the data contained on this page is accompanied by valid evidence related to fake news or hoax that are discussed on social media. The data analysed by using theories from Yule (2006) and Huang (2006) about presupposition on landscape discourse. The result shown, misused refer to criminal action did by certain people in spreading provocative issues. Those issues propagate narration with picture to lead the public opinion.
University Students' Knowledge at Determining Fake News: A Comparative Analysis

The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge of the respondents about fake news. Also, to determine how they distinguish the facts from fake news and the relationship of their sociodemographic profile to their knowledge about fake news. A descriptive research design and purposive sampling were used. A questionnaire was utilized to collect data which was composed of the profile, questions regarding their knowledge about fake news, their perception on how they distinguish fact from fake news and their source of knowledge. Permission to conduct and informed consent was obtained. Data were analyzed using various statistical tools. The majority of the respondents had good knowledge about fake news. They agree in all the statements regarding on how they distinguish fact from fake and their main source of knowledge of fake news is the social media. The relationship between their general average to their knowledge and how they distinguish fact from fake were significant. Therefore, an information dissemination campaign against fake news should be done to inform those vulnerable groups especially the young people on how to easily identify the fact from the fake.

To extend the prior studies, this paper focuses on the effects of fake news on students' decision-making traits through their cognitive ability. In particular, we try to respond to two research questions: why people rather believe inaccurate headlines than real information? How are their decisions connected with the level of intelligence measured by the cognitive test? Quite recently, considerable attention has been paid to the evaluation of intelligence by cognitive reflection test (CRT) in parallel with the analytical decision-making process. Thus, applying this methodology, we propose to analyse the CRT performance of undergraduates, after that, assess their perception of implausible and reliable information. We expect to review the initial results where CRT scores are highly correlated with rational thinking and illustrated individual differences. Another issue is to discover students leading analytical strategy towards unfaithful news.

Fake news poses one of the greatest threats to democracy, journalism, and freedom of expression. In recent cases, fake news’ designs are to create confusion and lower trust among the general public—as seen in the 2016 United States presidential campaign and the Brexit referendum. The spread of information without formal verification increased since the introduction of social media and online news channels. After the popularization of fake news, researchers have tried to evaluate and understand the effects of false information from multiple different perspectives. However, it is evident that to tackle the problem of fake news, interdisciplinary collaboration is needed. How People Perceive Influence of Fake News and Why It Matters

Employing theoretical frameworks regarding people's perception of media effects (e.g. thirdperson effect), this study examines how people perceive the effects of fake news, what may lead to these perceptions, and how people act on them. Findings from an online survey provide evidence that people perceive fake news to have negative influence on themselves and others, with greater influence on others than themselves. This study revealed that the extended internal political efficacy scale-the conventional internal political efficacy scale with a measure specific to fake news-serves as an antecedent of the perceived influence of fake news on oneself, others, and the self-other perceptual disparity. Further, the perceptions of fake news effects on oneself and others, separately and jointly, were significantly associated with several likely behaviors including support for fake news regulation, social media withdrawal, and information sharing on social media.

Fake news is one of the most discussed topics in the last few years. During the COVID-19 pandemic and during the Ukrainian war, the dangerous nature of this phenomenon became more obvious. More politics and more journalists are using now (fake) news as a weapon. Modern war must be considered in its informational part also. So, a correct evaluation of the news is an important skill for their consumers. Which are the psychological effects of fake news on the audience? Which is the psychological profile of the people that consume fake news? Which people are more vulnerable to suffering its negative effects? Why do people believe and share fake information? How can we explain the failure to distinguish accurate from inaccurate news? We studied the recent research in order to find the answers. This study is a literature review on the argument of fake news, its psychological effects on people and some explanations for this phenomenon.
The Influence of News Construction and Netizen Response to the Hoax News in Online Media

This study aims to determine the effect of news in online media on the thoughts and behavior of a person, because the impact is very strong in shaping public opinion. This study uses theory of mass communication, news construction, netizen response, online media. The research method used quantitative descriptive analysis with online data collection techniques. Conclusion of research (1) News construction have positive effect to reporting hoax in online media, meaning that news construction which is loaded and created by online media will influence hoax news dissemination. (2) The netizen response positively affects the news of hoaxes in the online media, meaning more and more netizens respond to hoax news, hoax news will be wider. (3) News construction and netizen responses have a positive and significant influence on hoax news in media online, meaning that these two variables give a significant influence in the preaching of hoax in online media.
