Abstract

Purpose We study the immunohistochemical expression of Metalloproteinases MMP-2 and MMP-9, in combination of expression of moles Collagen IV and Cadherin 2 in Mucoepidermoid and Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of salivary glands. Material and methods Thirty cases of Mucoepidermoid Carcinomas and thirty cases of Adenoid Cystic Carcinomas of salivary glands treated at the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery University Clinic of Papanikolaou Hospital of Thessaloniki and histologically examined at the Histology dpt of Papanikolaou Hospital of Thessaloniki are being studied retrospectively. The surgical specimens have already been stained by the four different antibodies and now their expressions are being immunohistochemically examined and clarified. Results Some results regarding the expressions of the molecules above and their combinations are expected to be ready for scientific announcement by the time of the 4th World Congress of IAOO. Conclusions We expect to utilize our results in conclusions regarding the association of the expression of the molecules with parameters such as tumor grading and furthermore the possibility of using the expression as prognostic or predictive factors.
