A Gauge-theoretical Treatment of the Gravitational Field: Classical
2008
In the geometrodynamical setting of general relativity one is concerned mainly with Riemannian metrics over a manifold M . We show that for the space M := Riem(M), we have a natural principal fiber bundle (PFB) structure Diff(M) →֒ M π → M/Diff(M), first hinted at in [1]. This construction makes the gravitational field amenable to exactly the same gauge-theoretic treatment given in [2], where it is used to separate rotational and vibrational degrees of freedom of n-particle systems, both classically and quantum mechanically. Furthermore, we show how the gauge connection in this PFB setting can be seen as a realization of Mach’s Principle of Relative Motion, in accordance with Barbour’s et al work on timeless gravitational theories [3] using best-matching. We show Barbour’s reconstruction of GR is obtained by requiring the connection to be the one induced by the deWitt metric in M. As a simple application of the gauge theory, we put the ADM lagrangian in a Kaluza-Klein context, in wh...
A note on the Standard Model in a gravitation field
2006
The Standard Model of elementary particles is a theory unifying three of the four basic forces of the Nature: electromagnetic, weak, and strong interactions. In this paper we consider the Standard Model in the presence of a classical (nonquantized) gravitation field and apply a bundle approach for describing it.
A note on connections of the Standard Model in a gravitation field
2006
A bstract. T he Standard M odel of the theory of elem entary particles is based on the U (1) SU (2) SU (3) sym m etry. In the presence of a gravitation eld, i.e. in a non-at space-tim e m anifold, this sym m etry is im plem ented through three special vector bundles. C onnections associated w ith these vector bundles are studied in this paper. In the Standard M odelthey are interpreted as gauge elds.
Study of Gauge Symmetry Through the Lagrangian Formulation of Some Field Theoretical Models
International Journal of Theoretical Physics, 2013
Study of gauge symmetry is carried over the different interacting and noninteracting field theoretical models through a prescription based on lagrangian formulation. It is found that the prescription is capable of testing whether a given model posses a gauge symmetry or not. It can successfully formulate the gauge transformation generator in all the cases whatever subtleties are involved in it. It is found that the prescription has the ability to show a direction how to extend the phase space using auxiliary fields to restore the gauge invariance of a theory. Like the usual phase space the prescription is found to be equally powerful in the extended phase space of a theory.
Mass, Charge and Motion in Covariant Gravity Theories
Previous work established a universal form for the equation of motion of small bodies in theories of a metric and other tensor fields that have second-order field equations following from a covariant Lagrangian in four spacetime dimensions. Differences in the motion of the "same" body in two different theories are entirely accounted for by differences in the body's effective mass and charges in those different theories. Previously the process of computing the mass and charges for a particular body was left implicit, to be determined in each particular theory as the need arises. I now obtain explicit expressions for the mass and charges of a body as surface integrals of the fields it generates, where the integrand is constructed from the symplectic current for the theory. This allows the entire prescription for computing the motion of a small body to be written down in a few lines, in a manner universal across bodies and theories. For simplicity I restrict to scalar and vector fields (in addition to the metric), but there is no obstacle to treating higher-rank tensor fields. I explicitly apply the prescription to work out specific equations for various body types in Einstein gravity, generalized Brans-Dicke theory (in both Jordan and Einstein frames), Einstein-Maxwell theory and the Will-Nordvedt vector-tensor theory. In the scalar-tensor case, this clarifies the origin and meaning of the "sensitivities" defined by Eardley and others, and provides explicit formulae for their evaluation.
Classical scalar and spinning particles interacting with external Yang-Mills fields
Nuclear Physics B, 1977
We derive the classical equations of motion for scalar and spinning particles interacting with an external Yang-Mills field. The internal degrees of freedom are described by a set of Grassmann variables; in this way, after quantization, we get automatically finitedimensional representations of the internal symmetry group. By requiring that the Lagrangian is gauge invariant we determine the general form for the coupling terms. In particular we obtain a ~eneralized version of the Bargmann-Michel-Telegdi equation, which is valid for a spin-~ particle in an arbitrary external field.
Generalized Yang-Mills theory and gravity
Physical Review D, 2016
We propose a generalization of Yang-Mills theory for which the symmetry algebra does not have to be factorized as mutually commuting algebras of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra and the algebra of functions on base space. The algebra of diffeomorphism can be constructed as an example, and a class of gravity theories can be interpreted as generalized Yang-Mills theories. These theories in general include a graviton, a dilaton and a rank-2 antisymmetric field, although Einstein gravity is also included as a special case. We present calculations suggesting that the connection in scattering amplitudes between Yang-Mills theory and gravity via BCJ duality can be made more manifest in this formulation.

The work is devoted to studying the vacuum structure, special relativity, electrodynamics of inter acting charged point particles and quantum mechanics, and is a continuation of . Based on the vacuum field theory no geometry approach, the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian reformulation of some alternative clas sical electrodynamics models is devised. The Dirac type quantization procedure, based on the canonical Hamiltonian formulation, is developed for some alternative electrodynamics models. Within an approach developed a possibility of the combined description both of electrodynamics and gravity is analyzed.
