A New Direction in University Teaching. Between Solidarity, Complexity and Media Education
Italian Journal of Sociology of Education, 2018
At the time of an abundance of media offers and the reduced prestige of the institutions, teaching became strategic to maintaining and redefining the authority and professional recognition of teachers. It has therefore become advisable to activate a process of self-reflection on the part of universities on the dimensions of didactic innovation and new demands placed on university professors, starting from the reformulation of the mission of the University of the Third Millennium. Areas in need of consideration include: educating to educate (old and new trends in the mode of transmission of knowledge, considering the continuous access to the contents and the new media and cultural behaviours of the students); educating towards an interdisciplinary perspective; educating towards internationalization; educating for integration and solidarity; educating to divulge the results of scientific research, national and global problems and evolutions in terms of technology and human value; educ...
REDU.
Synthesis Philosophica, 2013
Knowledge has become a resource that the modern society increasingly wishes to exploit in the market of competitiveness. One of the first requirements on the evaluation list is useful ness and competitiveness of the profile of graduates in the workforce market. The Bologna study Process, which strived to enable modern university to successfully prepare the modern student to enter the workforce market, in many scholars opinion did not achieve this goal. Despite having more resources invested in higher education, the society of knowledge is increasingly further from our reach. Additionally, modern university is facing new methodo logical and technological challenges in the process of education. Must one acknowledge the anthropological findings of M. Wesch about the new "internet" human, who not only has a different path to knowledge, but also defines this knowledge differently? The discussion finds that methodological change is not enough; instead we need to reevaluate knowledge as well as the role of student and teacher. One of the solutions is a new community of teach ers and scholars supported by imagination, where cooperation is a way of work and life.
Due to the requirements of the Treaty of Lisbon, of the different EU regulations and communications to achieve the main human and economic progress area in the world, it is necessary to make changes in the formative process of its main figures. In this sense, the European Higher Education Area is an opportunity for the redefinition of structures, teaching methods and roles of all of those implicated in Higher Education processes. The use of digital platforms in the ordinary Higher Education formative processes makes us wonder about the quality of the formative proposals we offer to our students. This paper deals with the study of the usefulness of ICT tools to develop innovative methodologies for “Materiales de Construcción” and “Historia de la Construcción ” subjects at Escuela Universitaria de Arquitectura Técnica de la Universidad de Sevilla; accordingly, it implies a transformation process of responsible lecturers in matters such as: professional training, updating methodologies...

The Threefold of Academia Europeana: A Case of Universitas Vilnensis
Problemos, 2009
The article argues that universitas or Academia Europeana is, first and foremost, a category of value and not an economic, professional or political entity. Axiological structure that unites the university habitat is threefold. It consists of the three clusters of values coming from the different epochs. First, polylogue of the Middle Ages based on the principle of multicentrism and unmediated, face to face sharing of competence. Second, modern statism and scientism founded in the national monocentrism and a combination of mediated, written, and unmediated, verbal, sharing of competence. Third, modern economism and globalism supported by the national monocentrism and the instrumentation of mediated sharing of competence. It has been showed that Vilnius University possesses all three value clusters, while the idea of the millennium of Lithuania serves as an impetus to conceptually recapture the historic experiences of Vilnius University. The article shows that the three value formations of the Academia Europeana in the history of Vilnius University, which is posited as the extreme edge of the European university habitat, underwent an essential, even extreme, radicalization. It has been argued, that sustainable development of university education is unthinkable without the consonant development of all three historically formed clusters of values, the most important of which still continues to be centered around the tradition of classical polylogue-unmediated search for existential values that is carefully passed on from hands to hands and from generation to generation.
New Technologies as a Tool for Changing Academic Communities in the Global Context
Comparative Professional Pedagogy, 2016
It has been defined that knowledge society emerges at the end of the twentieth century as the socioeconomic structure characteristic for developed societies in which unlike in industrial societies, the dominant sector of economy is services and the largest social group is the "men of knowledge". It has been indicated that the development of the knowledge society is considered in connection with scientific and technological development and the expansion of new technologies as they determined is that we live in a globalized world, connected by a dense network of connections and intensive contacts both between the individuals and the authorities at local, regional, national and transnational or institutions level or between the institutions of various types, among which, of course, there are also educational institutions, including universities. It has been concluded that the accentuated thought should be read as a contemporary call for the implementation of the classic academic ideas in the conditions of the use of new technologies. Paraphrasing a metaphor of J. Morbitzer, modern university institutions should become intellectual arcs that will save humanity from the information deluge, the flood of endless, murky waves to safely bring it to the port of the society in which knowledge will be a resource for creative and innovative activities. A very important task is in the situation of current unprecedented acceleration of technical and technological progress not to lose the deep humanistic character of the educational process in which the modern technology should well serve a man and not contribute to its enslavement.
