The paper presents the results of the part of an international survey on teachers' opinion on autism characteristics and specific educational approach and treatment. Research was undertaken in Poland under the auspices of ASD-EAST project using quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed the significant differences in teachers' perception on autism regarding to the school settings they worked in. The strong need for special training in the field of ASD was also expressed by teachers.

This research paper aimed to provide a preliminary study about the current teachers' knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) among primary schools teachers in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. In addition, this study also examined the effect of teachers' knowledge of ASD and their perception towards interest and perceived efficacy in working with children with ASD. A total of 120 questionnaires were distributed to each teacher from 4 various primary schools selected in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. As a result, it shows that the current status of primary schools teachers in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah may have inadequate knowledge about ASD. Moreover, it will also show a positive significant effect of teachers' knowledge of ASD towards their perception of interest and perceived efficacy in working with children with ASD. Thus, findings of this study is expected to shows the importance of teachers' knowledge about ASD, so that they will have better understanding about ASD and at the same time increase positive perception towards interest and perceived efficacy in working with children with ASD in the future.
Teacher education and confidence regarding autism of specialist primary school teachers

Legislation and policy within Croatia, the Republic of North Macedonia and Poland supports the educational inclusion of children with autism; however, such inclusion is nascent in these countries. A survey of experienced teachers working directly with children with autism in both inclusive and special schools was undertaken in winter 2018-19. Five hundred and sixty questionnaires were distributed and 340 returned (61% response); after cleansing, 242 responses were analysed. Over a quarter of respondents had received no instruction regarding autism during initial teacher education; almost half had undertaken no continuing professional development on the topic. Special school teachers reported higher overall confidence, but levels remained low within a number of key domains. Teachers identified a need for appropriate teacher education regarding theory, relevant practical strategies and mentorship/supervision. Implications regarding inclusive practice and teacher education in these countries are identified.

Due to the shortage of autism-specific professional development, the international ASD-EAST project was implemented. This article presents the findings of a quantitative survey undertaken among Polish teachers (in two school settings: special, N=60; mainstream/inclusive, N=30) who attended ASD-EAST workshops. The aim was to identify the post-autism-specific professional development increase of teachers’ knowledge concerning the characteristics of students with ASD and teachers’ subjective confidence regarding their professional competencies. The results showed that the training opportunity was considered by teachers to be important and effective. The results provide grounds for concluding that the programme may be recommended for practical use in order to train teachers who will work with students with ASD

Purpose: Identify and describe the difficulties and the value assigned to their work by teachers. Methods: The study included 51 teachers from mainstream and special schools who had children with ASD among their students. A classification type questionnaire was answered by teachers about the role they play in relation to the student, the difficulties and skills that the teacher has in relation to the student, communication strategies used by both behaviors and interests of children observed by the teacher. Results: The teachers responded that their influence was mainly related to communication and interpersonal relationships, difficulties were mainly related to learning, communication and behavior of the child. They felt that the school offers enough support for your work, but there is very little support from other professionals and lack of appropriate teaching technology. Conclusion: Thus, it is concluded that teachers are unprepared to teach these students and need to be better educated and receive more support from other professionals, and thus can provide a better education for children with ASD.
An Analysis of Turkish Pre-Service Teachers’ Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder

The purpose of the present study was to investigate knowledge of autism among teacher candidates who are likely to have the initial contact with children with autism within public school system in Turkey. Five hundred and four senior pre-service teachers who were enrolled in four different teacher education programs participated in the study. Data were collected using a survey package at the end of spring semester during the last year of college. Results indicated that pre-service teachers across programs had limited knowledge of autism and its characteristics. Findings of the present study call for the development of pre- and in-service training programs for teachers of children with autism. Further implications of findings for future research and practice are discussed.

Autism is a well-known phenomenon in students and it will impact the teaching and learning process. This study aims to investigate the correlation between teachers’ awareness of autism and classroom practices in secondary schools in Lahore. The study is carried out by following the quantitative method using a descriptive and inferential approach to discover and report the relationship between autism and classroom practices. 300 teachers from government and private secondary schools in Lahore responded to the questionnaire (Appendix 1). The questionnaire was consisted of 40 items covering teachers’ knowledge regarding autism and their classroom practices. School Teachers’ Knowledge about Autism in Saudi Arabia

The purpose of this study was to find out what school teachers know about Autism. In addition, this study attempted to find out if there any significant differences in school teachers' knowledge about Autism depending on teachers' (gender, position, education level, teaching experience, and contact with students with Autism) variables. A total of 391 general and special education teachers from various segregated and inclusive schools within the Jeddah in Saudi Arabia completed study instrument (Autism knowledge Questionnaire) to determine their level of knowledge about Autism. An analysis of the collected data, using descriptive statistics and analysis of variance, indicated that school teachers had an acceptable approaching to weak level of knowledge about Autism disorder. The results also indicated significant differences in the teachers' knowledge about Autism depending on teachers' (position, education level, teaching experience, and contact with students with Autism) favoring special education teachers, more advanced level of education and teaching experience, and those with previous contact with students with Autism.

The study aimed to explore the effect of academic qualification on teachers’ knowledge and awareness regarding autism at primary level. An Autistic person is unable to understand emotional states of others, fails to identify anger or sorrow, they don’t feel comfortable while communicating with others. Autistic person doesn’t have command over the language, avoids eye contact, fails to use facial expressions and gestures while interacting with others.
