Agent based intelligent courseware generation in e-learning systems
Proceedings of the Conference, 2009
Since involvement of computers in educational, academic and business communities has increased, e-learning systems present involvement of information and communication technology as constituent part of education that supports a teacher in traditional learning and teaching process. In this paper, our focus is placed on learning materials in e-learning systems, how they are selected, sequenced and presented in a form of courseware. The main idea of this preliminary research related to intelligent courseware generation is in dynamic planning of courseware elements based on a student's knowledge. A term "intelligent courseware generation" has not been used so far in this form and with the semantics described later on. Here, we define a multiagent system model for intelligent courseware generation that would enable collaboration of different intelligent agents that would, eventually, enhance student's learning and teaching process.
The role of metadata for the automated generation of educational courseware
Starting with a short report about the importance of metadata for the re-use of educational material, then the concepts and implementation of a semi-automatic metadata authoring tool are presented. In a first stage, it is integrated into the 3 framework for multidimensional learning objects. In this case more than 95% of the metadata can be automatically generated. Thus, the availability of extensive and reliable metadata can be used for the automated generation of individual course proposals. This is a substantial improvement for various aspects of e-learning.
Collaborative Agent Provision of Learner Needs using Ontology Based Semantic Technology
2017
This paper describes the use of Intelligent Agents and Ontologies to implement knowledge navigation and learner choice when interacting with complex information locations. The paper is in two parts: the first looks at how Agent Based Semantic Technology can be used to give users a more personalised experience as an individual. The paper then looks to generalise this technology to allow users to work with agents in hybrid group scenarios. In the context of University Learners, the paper outlines how we employ an Ontology of Student Characteristics to personalise information retrieval specifically suited to an individual’s needs. Choice is not a simple “show me your hand and make me a match” but a deliberative artificial intelligence (AI) that uses an ontologically informed agent society to consider the weighted solution paths before choosing the appropriate best. The aim is to enrich the student experience and significantly re-route the student's journey. The paper uses knowledge...
Automated Educational Course Metadata Generation Based on Semantics Discovery
2009
Abstract. Current educational systems use advanced mechanisms for adaptation by utilizing available knowledge about the domain. However, describing a domain area in sufficient detail to allow accurate personalization is a tedious and time-consuming task. Only few works are related to the support of teachers by discovering the knowledge from educational material. In this paper we present a method for automated metadata generation addressing the educational knowledge discovery problem.
Design Study of OER-CC Ontology - A Semantic Web Approach to Describe Open Educational Resources
2010
Through the application of semantic technologies to describe Open Educational Resources, any agent (human or software-based) could process and understand its contents, therefore, the agent could perform tasks autonomously or in a more effective way. In this paper, we describe the design and validation of the OER-CC ontology, which models the domain knowledge of educational resources licensed under Creative Commons Licenses. One of the most important contributions of this work is that we implement different rules and axioms to identify inconsistencies between rights provided by a licensed on an learning material and particular uses that are performed on it.
Semantic Metadata for Creating and Describing Educational Resources
2011
web contains a multitude of information sources and knowledge which often are represented as HTML files. These files can be used as educational resources (ERs) or may contain inside (piece of text, image …) important ERs. In this paper we propose an approach that allows us to extract and annotate these resources in order to store them into Learning Object Repository (LOR). The users can search ERs through this LOR from different points of view, especially educational type and domain topic. This LOR follows an adaptive research according to the user preferences.
