Critical factors of digital transformation success: A literature review (original) (raw)

Developing a unified definition of digital transformation

Technovation

Digital Transformation (DT) has become an imperative for most organizations in our world of emergent and continuous changes. The term DT has been so broadly used (and misused) that it becomes very confusing. Consequently, the need to provide some conceptual rigor to DT is urgently needed. The purpose of this article is to develop a unified definition of "digital transformation" based on a vastly rigorous/scientific review and analysis of 134 well-received, published definitions of DT that significantly differentiates from other related terms in the literature. The proposed unified definition will help researchers and practitioners to "advance the theory and practice" of the discipline.

Digital transformation theoretical background

Digital transformation: theoretical backgrounds of digital change The purpose of this paper is the review of the existing definitions of digital transformation (abbrev. DT) and to establish a structured approach within its implications in the phases, structuring new business model, implementation activities and results. This article was raised by literature review, which main aim was bringing insight into the basic understanding of theoretical background of digital transformation, in a mean of digitization and current megatrends in the world increasingly VUCA. The author in this publication brings examples, complete the literature research and show the theoretical aspects of the DT concepts, briefly analyze trends concerning DT. The author leads from definitions of the DT, through digital readiness, efficiency in digital transformation area. The main findings are that an approach for the structured digitization of business models is growing, several excellence models are being developed through past years, structuring the implementation model for digital transformation as a widely known concept. The author in the article offers a transparent definition of the digital transformation. Furthermore, corresponds to phases for the DT of business models by Digital Capability Maturity Models overview. Moreover, this paper is the author's statement for further research of the digital transformation and its practical dimension.

The Digital Transformation: Key Attributes and Challenges

IJAEMA: The International journal of analytical and experimental modal analysis, 2019

As a catalyst for positive and radical change, digital transformation represents a complex issue that affects people from all walks of life and the whole economy. The objective and ultimate aim of this procedure are efficient business processes as well as operations through rigorous use of ICT. The study topic of this research paper is the key attributes and challenges of the digital transformation process of business in both the private and public sectors. This paper analysis shows that some aspects, like the pace of transformation, the culture and working environment, viewpoint are substantially underdeveloped. More precisely this document is intended to place the current knowledge about the subject in order. We introduce a systematic analysis of scientific and technical literature regarding how digital transformation facilitates business, we demonstrate that the knowledge regarding how digital transformation assists in the business. Moreover, key attributes and challenges within this topic are emphasized. Furthermore, the research paper provides the roadmap for digital transformation.

Conceptualizing and measuring the digital transformation: a proposal for a measurement model

Cadernos de Gestão Pública e Cidadania, 2024

Our world today is undeniably digital and understanding and implementing a digital transformation process have become key factors for most organizations. Due to its relevance and contemporaneity, digital transformation emerges as a topic of great interest, where the academy indicates a lack of comprehensive portrait regarding its requirements and strategic guidelines. In this context, researchers have alerted about the need of building an approach on how to digitally transform business models, and define which facilitators, phases, and instruments can be considered. Based on this, the study aims to elucidate basic dimensions for the application of digital transformation considering a set of technologies adhering to the concept of the Industry 4.0. The methodological approach chosen for undertaking the study was procedural research, subject to its progress method as descriptive and impact research. In addition, the study was elaborated from an exploratory and descriptive research, bibliographical and documental in nature, achieved through literature review. Throughout the research, three drivers and nine dimensions were identified that can serve as the basis for the digital transformation process in an organization. With this framework, it was possible to build a preliminary model that serves as a groundwork for mapping the digital transformation implementation process in future studies and may support organizations to improve their processes and actions towards this innovation era.

Digital transformation

ITIJR , 2022

Since 1990, the usage of internet as well as digitization has significantly increased. Digital transformation is the process of using, adoption of digital technology or information technology by an organisation to embed or digitalize products and services. A brief picture of types of learning, educational technology like Artificial intelligence, Meta verse, AR&VR, IoT, how digital transformation enables to meet UN SDG 4 is portrayed in this paper

Digital transformation: conceptual framework

Proceedings of 6th International Scientific Conference Contemporary Issues in Business, Management and Economics Engineering ‘2019, 2019

Purpose-the main goal of the current research was to provide a deep understanding of the concept of digital transformation, specifying its key elements/components/categories. Research methodologyan analysis of the textual information was performed, applying various techniques in the framework of the content analysis. Information database included 30 definitions of the term "digital transformation" and the related terms proposed by academicians and organizations. Findings-the analysis of the text segments of the investigated concept yielded three categories of digital transformation in business; 1) technologies, 2) processes and management, 3) people. Based on the research results, the conceptual model of digital transformation was created. Research limitations-the research was limited by the number of the analyzed definitions, as well as by the variety of methods applied. Practical implications-the research instrument for a survey among business sector representatives can be developed using the findings of the given study, in particular, for structuring the questionnaire's blocks. Originality/Value-the current research provides a platform for further empirical investigation of the level of a company's digital transformation.

Dynamics of Digital Transformation

Digital Transformation has drawn considerable interests amongst business researchers and managers in the last few years. While the process of Digital Transformation is a complex process. We have untangled this complexity by breaking it down into variables with interrelationships i.e., digital disruptions, digital technologies, business strategy, value creation, organizational structure, organizational culture, organizational barriers, performance, efficiency, privacy, data security and metrices for measuring success. DT is dynamic since emerging digital technologies are a source of disruption in a firm’s internal and external environments. To stay ahead, companies must transform even when they’re already dominating their markets. But 75% of business transformation programs fail, largely because most companies lack a disciplined and wholistic approach. Having more data scientists and programmers in an organization is just not sufficient, we need all parts of the organization to think like a Data Scientist. In this paper therefore one of our objectives is to examine, using a Causal Loop Diagram of System Dynamics, the enablers which give positive feedbacks and restraints which cause negative feedback loops leading to the dynamic behavior of DT leading to uncertainties which make organizations fail while adopting the same. However we provide a strategy for adopting digital transformation for the SMEs.

Digital Transformation: An Overview of the Current State of the Art of Research

SAGE Open, 2021

The increasing digitalization of economies has highlighted the importance of digital transformation and how it can help businesses stay competitive in the market. However, disruptive changes not only occur at the company level; they also have environmental, societal, and institutional implications. This is the reason why during the past two decades the research on digital transformation has received growing attention, with a wide range of topics investigated in the literature. The following aims to provide insight regarding the current state of the literature on digital transformation (DT) by conducting a systematic literature review. An analysis of co-occurrence using the software VOSviewer was conducted to graphically visualize the literature’s node network. Approached this way, the systematic literature review displays major research avenues of digital transformation that consider technology as the main driver of these changes. This paper qualitatively classifies the literature o...
