Development of a Standard Moodle Course to Optimize the Teacher's Work in Distance Education

Universal Journal of Educational Research, 2020

To minimize the time required for designing a Moodle course and to reduce the required level of ICT competence for learning content management system (LCMS) Moodle, we designed standard Moodle course university and created video tutorials about how to design a new Moodle course based on it. The purpose of this paper is to consider the structural and content features of the standard Moodle course university and to review the methodical instructions for designing a new Moodle course based on it. The reasonableness of the creation of a new Moodle course from a backup copy of the standard course university is substantiated in the work. This approach to new courses designing eliminates two main factors that impede using of Moodle in the educational process. When a teacher has electronic training and methodological complex, this approach helps to minimize the time for course designing. Using of such elements as "URL", "Assignment" and "Quiz" reduces the minimal level of teachers' information and communication technologies competence for work in Moodle. The basic principle of building a standard course is the designing course as the online portal. When course is built in this way, it helps not to overload the Moodle server. Placing of electronic learning and methodological complex components on Google Drive creates the first backup of the course. The following methods were used in the research: analysis of Internet resources (finding out which Ukrainian pedagogical universities use LCMS Moodle), analysis of а pedagogical experience of using LCMS Moodle, modeling (developing a model of standard Moodle course and its use in the educational process), questionnaires (finding out whether the model meets the requirements of the educational process and the direction of further research).

MOODLE AS A KEY TOOL IN STUDENTS ORGANIZATION AND COMMUNICATION WHEN PARTICIPATING IN ONLINE DISTANCE COURSES

The aim of this study is to demonstrate how Moodle helps students in their distance electronic learning process. The survey results are intended to show how Moodle can help the distance electronic courses in three Greek universities, the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences, Hellenic Open University and TEI of Epirus, to investigate any problems and to propose improvement measures for qualitative learning. The working methodology will be based on the collection of primary and secondary data. The original data will be collected by conducting quantitative research using questionnaire as main tool. The sample will be undergraduates and postgraduates students. Results revealed that students consider Moodle as an easy platform, which does not require specialized knowledge on how to use it. This is an important factor in encouraging students and the continuation of their studies. Students seem to prefer Moodle as they find it easy and revisory though is not effective enough in learning as students are not completely satisfied by the communication with their teachers, the media used and the study suggests. Finally, we found that women evaluate Moodle higher in comparison to men.

Based on the interview results the researcher noted that student autonomy or self-educating is the key point for the students to overcome the challenges during the DL experience. The interviewees commented that this experience had improved their satisfaction in several ways. In conclusion, this experience provided them with a platform where they can be more active and collaborative in their own learning process.

Aspects related to the usefulness of a distance training course having Moodle as course management system support

2009

The citizens benefit of technological progress in an equitable and non-discriminatory way in the Knowledge Society. Being part of the long-term governmental strategy, the permanent upgrading of the access to information and expanding of the Internet represent the main pillars of the actions developed in the field of education. In this direction, the implementation of ICT in the teaching process led to the change of the educational perspectives and instruments. As example, the concept of e-learning brings together modern methods of interaction by using ICTs. Many educational projects have promoted and introduced e-learning as an alternative to traditional education. Even for teachers, the on-line training programs represent a good option to increase their knowledge in their related areas. In this respect, the European Socrates Comenius 2.1 Project "VccSSe -Virtual Community Collaborating Space for Science Education" (128989-CP-1-2006-1-RO-COMENIUS-C21) promoted the use of virtual instrumentation and experiments as new teaching methods for the Mathematics and Science teachers. As the training sessions were developed under the Moodle course management system, this paper presents some aspects related to the training process made in the frame of the project and other considerations regarding the usefulness of the distance course, taking into consideration the participants' opinions.

Designing motivational learning systems in distance education

The designing of instruction, when considered as a process, is the determination of instructional requirements of the learner and development of functional learning systems in order to meet these requirements. In fact, as a consequence of studies on the development of effective learning systems some instructional design theories have emerged. Among these theories the motivational design theory points out that instructional processes are required to be configured with the strategies which increases the attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction of the students for an instructional design which ensures the continuity of learning motivation.

Motivation of students for remote learning on the example of French language classes and the role of the state in distance education

Scientific Papers of Silesian University of Technology Organization and Management Series

The most important goal of the article is to present the results of a study on the motivation to learn French among students of Romance philology and to indicate the role the state should play in implementing appropriate solutions that will improve distance education. Design/methodology/approach: A survey method was used to collect empirical material among students. A survey questionnaire was used in the study. Findings: Motivation affects our efficiency, concentration and memory. Regardless of the form of learning, we should look for appropriate motivators that will make it easier for us to acquire knowledge and thus achieve our goal. However, the aspect of distance education discussed in the article is closely related to the role of the state, which plays an important element in the entire learning process. Practical implications: Adapting the education plan to the existing situation, as well as to the students' abilities, and monitoring the teaching process by the teacher. It is also extremely important for the teacher to stimulate his or her motivation, which has an impact on the learner's motivation. The variety of exercises that make the remote lesson more attractive also turns out to be crucial. On the other hand, it is necessary to support the lecturers themselves by organizing training, workshops and courses for them to acquire/expand technical and IT skills or to acquire knowledge adequate to the existing remote working conditions. As the study shows, the provision of broadly understood psychological assistance by specialists also plays an important role in the discussed issue of distance learning. Social implications: Drawing the respondents' attention to the need to establish and maintain direct interpersonal contacts. Moreover, realizing the important role the state plays in providing the infrastructure necessary for distance education, and thus in counteracting the phenomenon of digital exclusion among students and lecturers, as well as in ensuring safety against threatscybersecurity. Originality/value: The article is addressed to lecturers, teachers and state authorities. Difficulties faced by students during distance learning and proposals to increase their motivation were presented.
