AI has already arrived to universities. We cannot stop such a powerful force. But how can we use it in beneficiary ways? That is the question. There is no escape. Universities should determine policies. For one thing, how will we, especially students, utilize generative AI? If they use a prompt and generate a text, this is plagiarism. But there are other programs that humanize AI-produced texts. Yet there are others that can detect humanized AI-produced texts. There are no limits to this technological loop. Where should we stand in such a case? If we take measures, maybe we will blame the innocents (much like Type I error in statistics); if we will not, we will not punish the guilty ones (much like Type II error in statistics). Thus, rather than institutional approaches, personal ethical guidelines are needed for responsible uses of AI. On the other hand, it is obvious that students do not know the full capabilities of AI. For instance, they do not know that they can produce a presentation or even a video by a prompt (which is plagiarism) or by their own text (which is not plagiarism). They mostly use AI superficially. At the same time, faculty and administrators are even less prepared for the AI revolution. Education is getting personalized. Applications like Duolingo with their adaptive testing approach become even more popular and influential. Many people prefer an application rather than joining face-to-face classes. This trend can be applicable for other subject areas soon. Additionally, generative AI turns out to be a perfect educational tool for those who know how to use it with all its affordances. For any topic, generative AI can generate quizzes with answers, which can accelerate the learning process. It is time for universities to develop AI policies and even set up an AI office in order not to miss the latest developments. Only the fastest adopters of the new tools will succeed in the race in the age of AI. AI use in higher education has various advantages and disadvantages.
Promises and Perils of Ai Use on the Tertiary Educational Level

This article describes possible practical applications of Artificial Intelligence on the tertiary educational level both from the staff and students’ perspectives on the basis of experience gained by universities worldwide. AI usage in higher education field is analyzed on the basis of correlation between participants of educational process and the areas of innovative software application. Advantages of AI use are outlined on institutional, social and instructional levels. AI proves to be a growing and promising tool for facilitating educational processes, having obvious benefits for the education-givers and seekers, including the institutional possibilities of streamline enrollment and improved retention, organizational guidance and support of students on campus as well as educational opportunities such as better recourses management and successful online training process. Additionally, ethical considerations are raised, regarding use of AI, data management and privacy.

The present conceptual paper explores on the Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Higher Education. This study attempted to discuss the role and concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be applied in teaching and learning in higher education and importance of using AI in Higher Education. AI is a study of how human brain think, learn, decide, and work, when it tries to solve problems. The aim of AI is to improve computer functions which are related to human knowledge, for example, reasoning, learning, and problem-solving. AI gives opportunities to higher education services to become easily accessible at an extraordinary speed, not only inside the class but also outside the classroom. This report attempts to figure out the how AI can become an integral part of universities and tried to access it's immediate and future implications on different areas of higher education. This article investigates the perspectives of Romanian academics on implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Higher Education (HE). The article analyzes the pros and cons of AI in HE, based on the views of eighteen academics from five Romanian universities. There is a large and heated debate about the proliferation of AI in many domains, with strong supporters and determined deniers. Studies that research the implications of AI enrich the evidence-based literature on the advantages, disadvantages, threats, or opportunities that AI creates for us, for businesses, or for societies. The relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and its aspects in higher education

Purpose This paper aims to provide better understanding on this phenomenon, as well as some recommendations to assist in preparing Al technology and its related aspects during crisis like Covid period and beyond. Design/methodology/approach The study consisted of two phases. Phase one focused on identifying top higher education institutions according to the QS world university ranking. As a result, 180 higher education institutions in the Arab region were found, with the 2022 QS Arab region university ranking. The study selected top 20 performing institutions. Each institution has been assessed according to six metrics including: international student ratio, international research network, international ration, Web impact, citation per page and paper per faculty. Phase two explored the adapted Al applications and their related aspects that are used in each institution using a learning online questionnaire. Pilot tests were used to determine the validity and reliability of the measures. Findings Numerous factors that lead to enhancing high education using Artificial Intelligence in higher education institutions have emerged from this study. These factors include; knowledge management, trust, learning, technical resources and complexity. First, effective knowledge management assists in maintaining information in a place where it is easy to share and access. Second, trust is considered a critical factor in dealing with uncertainties like covid-19. It needs to be effectively addressed by students and staff members, especially in higher education. Without trust, decisions cannot be successfully made and actions may be delayed or stalled. Third, continuous learning is a key factor that tends to enhance the capability of dealing with new routines or potential challenges. Fourth, technical resources refer to electronic devices and tools that are used by students and academics to interact and share knowledge. Originality/value Students and faculty academics perceive things and use Al technology differently, which can lead to misunderstanding and create tension between them. Many higher education institutions have adapted great Al technology applications, but they are significantly less proficient than previously thought at understanding how to leverage this technology to produce helpful solutions to their business difficulties.

This chapter analyzes the impact of national Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategies and policies on higher education institutions. The comparative analysis includes an exhaustive review of the AI regulatory framework of top leading economies, including the U.S., China, Japan, Germany, the U.K., France, South Korea, the U.A.E., Canada, Israel, Netherlands, and Sweden. The chapter also provides an extensive but summarized literature review of the most relevant AI applications in a long list of professional fields and academic majors. Finally, the chapter discusses the implications of the extensive adoption of AI and the need for higher education institutions to adapt to the most compelling challenge of the Fourth Industrial Revolution: AI. The chapter also provides ample evidence of the urgent need for higher education institutions to include AI curriculum content as a critical factor for their long-term survival. The instruction of AI content in almost all academic majors will prepare future alumnae with the abilities and talent they will need to succeed in the job market.

Artificial Intelligence for Education and Research: Pilot Study on Perception of Academic Staff

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools have been used across various sectors of the global economy. The use of AI has been associated with both benefits and drawbacks, which is why the goal of this research was to identify the attitudes of academic staff of higher education institutions (HEIs) towards using AI for both academic and research purposes. To attain the goal, there was designed a questionnaire, which was distributed to members of academic staff of different biological genders and ages from 10 European countries. Irrespective of biological gender, age, or country, responses were similar. First, academic staff emphasized the importance of having AI-related regulations at HEIs. Second, academic staff were positive about using AI for information searchers and preparation of teaching materials. Third, academic staff were concerned about AI-related plagiarism issues, which is why they were reluctant to approve the AI use for research and thesis writing. Fourth, slightly more than 40% of the respondents indicated the use of AI. This points to the lack of AI skills among academic staff, which was further supported by a set of basic purposes for which AI was claimed to have been used. One implication of this research relates to the organization of the study process. Managers of HEIs should introduce institutionalized training in AI for academic and research purposes for academic staff to promote digital equality. Another implication of the study relates to the areas of AI training for academic staff. It should cover the topics of AI for the design of teaching materials, formative and summative assessment, and plagiarism check.

At present, comprehensive research, from various points of view (social, economic, ethical, legal), devoted to the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies in various spheres of society, is of particular relevance. It is important to identify opportunities and threats, to determine the limits of the use of artificial intelligence in practice. The article is devoted to the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies in the field of higher education. The perspective directions of using artificial intelligence in the field of higher education are considered and analyzed. The authors come to the conclusion that artificial intelligence is not at all a competitor to the teaching staff, either in teaching or in evaluating students ' knowledge. Artificial intelligence is an auxiliary, but valuable tool that can perform and improve a large number of different operations carried out at the university, help in organizing an effective educational process and building the necessary communications. The effective use of AI technologies in higher education will allow the selection of the most optimal learning strategy, adapted to the individual abilities and needs of students and the needs of the labor market.

This study aims to comprehensively investigate the impact of AI on higher education in Saudi Arabia, delving into stakeholders' attitudes, perceptions, and expectations regarding its implementation. The research hones in on key facets of AI in higher education, encompassing its influence on teaching and learning, ethical and social implications, and the anticipated role of AI in the future. Employing a quantitative approach through an online survey questionnaire (N = 1113), this study reveals positive attitudes toward AI in higher education. Stakeholders recognize its potential to enhance teaching and learning, streamline administration, and foster innovation. Emphasis is placed on ethical considerations and guidelines for AI implementation, highlighting the imperative need to address issues such as privacy, security, and bias. Participants envision a future characterized by personalized learning experiences, ethically integrated AI, collaboration, and ongoing support for lifelong learning. Furthermore, the results illuminate the intricate interplay between AI usage, purposes, difficulties, and their impact on attitudes, perceptions, and future implications. Accordingly, the research underscores the necessity for a comprehensive understanding of AI integration, considering not only its technical aspects but also the ethical, social, and educational dimensions. By acknowledging the role of AI uses, AI usage purposes, and addressing associated difficulties, educational stakeholders can work towards harnessing the benefits of AI while ensuring responsible and effective implementation in teaching and learning contexts.
