Interactivity and Trust as Antecedents of E-Training Use Intention in Nigeria: A Structural Equation Modelling Approach (original) (raw)

Mediating effects of perceived usefulness and trust between individual factors and intention to use E-training in Nigerian Technological Universities

2017

Developments in information technology (IT) have offered universities some sophisticated technological tools and innovative training contents that can be used in delivering training to their employees. However, for successful IT integration in training, employees’ positive disposition towards the new system is vital. Although factors, including computer/Internet self-efficacy, interactivity, organisational support, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and trust have been used in most studies that investigated technology acceptance, little is known about the effects of interactivity and trust on intention to use e-training. Therefore, this study empirically examines the roles of these factors in determining intention to use e-training within the context of Nigerian technological universities using the technology acceptance model (TAM). Data were collected from 301 employees of five technological universities in Nigeria and partial least squares - structural equation modeling (...

Factors affecting e-training adoption: an examination of perceived cost, computer self-efficacy and the technology acceptance model

Behaviour & Information Technology, 2017

The objective of this paper is to highlight the role that perceived cost, computer self-efficacy and the technology acceptance model (TAM) constructs have in e-training adoption in the Nigerian civil service. With the use of the SmartPLS 2.0 M3 software, a framework that included perceived cost, computer self-efficacy and TAM constructs (perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEOU)) was tested on 450 heads of departments. Scales on perceived cost, computer selfefficacy, PU and PEOU developed by previous studies were modified accordingly and used. This paper found perceived cost to have a significant effect on e-training adoption. Computer selfefficacy was statistically insignificant through PEOU. In addition, PEOU had an indirect effect through PU. Therefore, only PU of the TAM constructs indicated strong predictive strength in etraining adoption. This paper showed that with e-training adoption, facilities such as computers can be put in place, which can improve the outlook of the civil service. In addition, the cost that is usually associated with traditional training can be reduced, increasing the opportunity to invest in other aspects of the civil service which can help in adding to the overall performance. Relationships were examined in this paper, which were shown to be favourable to e-training adoption in the Nigerian civil service.

Factors Affecting Acceptance of Web-Based Training System: Using Extended Utaut and Structural Equation Modeling

International Journal of Computer Science, Engineering and Information Technology, 2012

Advancement in information system leads organizations to apply e-learning system to train their employees in order to enhance its performance. In this respect, applying web based training will enable the organization to train their employees quickly, efficiently and effectively anywhere at any time. This research aims to extend Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use Technology (UTAUT) using some factors such flexibility of web based training system, system interactivity and system enjoyment, in order to explain the employees' intention to use web based training system. A total of 290 employees have participated in this study. The findings of the study revealed that performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, social influence and system flexibility have direct effect on the employees' intention to use web based training system, while effort expectancy, system enjoyment and system interactivity have indirect effect on employees' intention to use the system.

E-TRAINING ADOPTION IN THE NIGERIAN CIVIL SERVICE

Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to highlight the factors that aid e-training adoption in the Nigerian civil service. Design/method/approach-This paper is based on review of past literature from data bases, reports, newspapers, magazines etc. Literature recognized the role of perceived cost, computer self-efficacy, availability of resources and perceived support in e-training adoption. Using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this paper explained the importance of these variables in e-training adoption in developing country context. Findings- We found that the combined role of perceived cost, computer self-efficacy, technological infrastructure, internet facilities, power supply, organisational support, technical support and government support is critical for e-training adoption in developing countries, particularly in Nigeria. Thus, we proposed the combination of these variables which would encourage future research on the use of TAM in technology adoption. Research limitation/implications- This Paper gives an elaboration of the role of computer self-efficacy, perceived cost, availability of resources and perceived support with TAM as base of the framework. This provides researchers the opportunity to test the proposed framework empirically and further suggest other variables that can aid e-training adoption in the context of developing country. Practical implications- The result of this paper can serve as a guide to managers and policy makers to have a better understanding of the requirements for e-training adoption especially in developing countries. This will go a long way towards designing good policies that could maximize e-training results. Originality/value- This paper adds to the existing literature on e-training and TAM with the suggestion of proposed variables Keywords: E-training, TAM, civil service, Nigeria

An Analysis of Organisational Dimension as Predictor to the Intention to Use of e-Training System among Senior School Administrators

A study has been conducted to investigate the role of organisational dimension (organisational policy & incentive) as predictors to the intention of use of e-training system in the training of senior school administrators. This is part of a larger study that look at the complete eco-systems for effective delivery of etraining at Institut Aminudin Baki, Jitra, Kedah for senior school administrators utilising the e-training system to supplement the conventional delivery of the training. A dedicated questionnaire was developed based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and administered to a total of 210 participants mostly of the age of 40-49 years old (92%) and with more than 15 years of service (87.6%). The study involved first looking at the extent of the relationship between organisational policy and incentive towards perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use and subsequently looking at the relationship between perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use towards the behavioral intention. The relationship between perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness was also investigated. The results show that the organisational policy and incentive have no influence and impact on the perceived usefulness (β=0.052) and perceived of use (β=0.092). Perceived usefulness has positive and direct impact on the behavioral intention (β= 0.531, p<0.05). Perceived ease of use on the other hand, has positive and direct impact on the perceived usefulness (β=0.719, p<0.05) but has no significant impact on the behavioral intention (β=0.098). The details discussion on the impact of this study towards predicting the acceptance and adoption of the e-training system among senior administrators is discussed.

An examination of the factors affecting the adoption of E-training in the Nigerian civil service sector

Global Business and Organizational Excellence 36 (4), 33-42. WILEY ONLINE, 2017

To examine the role that perceived support has in e-training adoption in the Nigerian civil service, researchers developed a framework that addressed organizational, technical, and government support, as well as perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. The results of a questionnaire administered to 450 department heads revealed that both perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use had a strong predictive role in e-training adoption. Although organizational and government support were not shown to have a significant impact on the adoption of e-training, technical support was found to play a role through its impact on perceived ease of use. By bolstering e-training efforts with the proper support, public-sector decision-makers can facilitate the adoption of such programs in their quest to improve the performance of the government agencies they administer.
