Klaus Ruthenberg (ed): František Wald: Essays 1891–1929 WALD Press, Prague, 2009, 231 p (original) (raw)

Foundations of Chemistry, 2010

Abstract

The volume comprises fourteen essays of the Czech chemist František Wald (1861–1930) published between 1891 and 1916 and also one text from Wald’s archive stemming from the year 1929. The original language of the texts is either Czech or German. The English translations have been provided by a professional translator team (Eurotranslation s.r.o., Czech Republic) with the exception of the archive text, which was translated by the editor. An editorial note that contains information about the original publication circumstances, information regarding the discourse context, information about the persons whom Wald is referring to, and various additional remarks, precedes each text. Six of the texts appeared originally in the official organ of the Czech chemical scientific community, Listy Chemické/Chemické Listy (best translated as Chemical Letters), two in the Zeitschrift für Physikalische Chemie, edited by Wilhelm Ostwald, one in the more intellectual popular journal Naše Doba (Our Times)
